If Glock pistols didn't exist...what would be the de facto "Ak-47 of the pistol world"?

[ak-47 of pistol world meaning the 'never say die, always go bang no matter what' pistol on the market]

I would have to agree, the Mak would be the best. Actually it still is, just no one seems to know about it.

Well, if Glocks never were then you wouldn't have XD's, M&P's, Sigma's, SR9's, etc....

I think that the CZ 75B would have the position that Glock enjoys.

That or Makarov's.

There would be millions more all steel handguns that people could be proud of owning.

You're assuming a lot there. But the question itself assumes a lot and really can't be answered in the absolute. There's no way to prove what would and what would not exist, except for already existed.

some very good replies; i didnt want absolutes...just opinions

and i should have been more specific; i meant if glock pistols ceased to exist, who would take the place of them

if glocks didnt exist I guess first would be The Heckler Koch USP Series,Hk P30,Hk45c and Second would be the S&W M&P Series,
These would be the only options for quality Polymer frame reliable combat pistols In USA that I would Trust...Maybe Springers XDM Series in dead last.

HK had already tried polymer pistols prior to Glock and it wasn't a hit. I suspect someone would have tried it again or as a previous poster suggested the CZ-75 and variants may have taken the world by surprise. CZ's would have had greater popularity had they not been behind the Iron Curtain.

Umm.. Hi Point? (Being half sarcastic here)...

I think they should blister pack those with a loaded magazine and sell them on the checkout lanes at WalMart.

I'd think for a "respectable" but yet cheap and reliable brand Ruger or Bersa would fit the bill.
*le nod*
Alternatively, maybe we'd have an AK pistol... now that'd be epic.

Revolvers, until someone else matched extreme low cost with extreme reliability and extreme marketing success. But specifically any of the CZ, BHP, or 1911 makers would have produced something eventually, I think. Smith might have had a leg up at the time.
