This is a fairly long article, but at the end of it the author states that "If this horrible event happened in a movie, Jason Bourne, living undercover, would have been the school gym teacher, and when violence entered the school, he would have protected those children with all the skills and force necessary. And we all would have cheered.

And yet, politicians argue that the answer to armed maniacs is a disarmed, unprotected citizenry. Parents should trust others to stand in the gap for their beloved children."

It's especially funny because, while I don't know his position on guns specifically, I know Matt Damon is a fairly liberal individual. Anyway, the article makes a good point. Had this event happened in a movie, someone would have stopped him, and everyone would have cheered. However, when we suggest that we give people the means to stop an attack like this, the general knee-jerk reaction is "what if THAT teacher went nuts, too?"

I sincerely hope this blows over, but the author is right. There is a double-standard for what can be done in a movie vs. what can be done in-real-life. Even if the protagonists actions fit with what we suggest on THR ST&T, he is a great hero for his actions in the movie, and we are nuts for suggesting the same morality in real life.
