Of the semi-customs listed, I'm good with Ed Brown or Les Baer. Brown's have a clean look with no silly front-cocking serrations; Baer's a well-deserved reputation for accuracy. Have seen a couple Nighthawks that truly didn't impress me. WC (and I owned one for years) still makes nice guns, but Dan Wesson makes comparable models at a much lower price point.
Dan Wesson is one I'm considering too. In regards to the Ed Brown and Les Baer, I agree. They are much cleaner looking guns. I with less flashy nonsense.

I like front cocking serrations. However when the gun has the model name on the slide, like a lot of Nighthawks and Wilsons, not so much.

Korth, but you specifically said semiauto
This notion may bump over to a revolver. So a Korth might happen some day. However, I've never even seen a Korth in person, so I'm not entirely sure what warrants the price. Not saying they don't, just saying I don't know.

My money would be headed towards a truly nice CZ pattern gun, but you didn’t list any of those either.
A CZ TSO or Shadow 2 are possibilities.

I dare not speak that S2 word...the credit card tries to jump out at even the thought of it. I keep looking at the Tanfo guns marketed by EAA though. The higher end guns are still affordable but are a whole lot of gun for the money.

A witness hunter in 10mm is an appealing gun.

Well aware some in his "Tactical" and "FX" line have FCS; however, if you look at his catalog, most of his pistols do not ... I was simply mentioning my preference for 1911s not having them, that's all ... as all the other makers seem to feel we all want those extra serrations on our pistols, Brown and Dan Wesson are keeping slides clean and pretty.

Back on topic, at this point in my life I no longer want nor need any full-custom 1911s; I'm totally good with the higher-end production models and even my Colt's, Springfield Armory and Kimber 1911s have delivered excellent performance over the years, but yeah, for me, Ed Brown and Les Baer represent the pinnacle of my 1911 desires.

I was just pulling your leg.... That gun does have everything purists hate though. FLGR, Golf ball stippling, funky bronze Ceracote. :)
The Classic Custom is my favorite EB though.

I picked CZ... but if I wanted an heirloom-type gun, I'd probably go with a quality bare bones 1911 or a revolver of some sort. Save the money to shoot and cherish the gun.

My choice would be a Les Baer because the hand fitting, inherant accuracy and long service life. I don't require form over function; i.e. no safe queens. For me, the pistol will see frequent heavy use. Others are great pistols, just not for me, if I could only have one.

I was sorely tempted by a gently used Ed Brown Cobra Carry a while back, I can tell you that.

Just throwing this out, but all of the custom makers offer a naked slide option as well as an option for custom engraving or marking to some extent.

Yep, but it'd seem that most folks who spend 3-6K on a pistol would want everyone to know who made it ... One doesn't see too many Mercedes Benz autos, Jaguars, Ferraris, etc., without the iconic hood ornaments on 'em. However, I'd be curious to know how many folks order a Wilson Combat, for example, and don't want the company's rollmarks on the slide and frame.

But the big logos and "billboards?" You can have them. For that reason, I'd never pay for any STI pistol, way too much big writing on the slides ...

The money is no object 1911- something by Yost, Rodgers, or Tussey will do just fine!

Not quite so much money but still a custom 1911-something by Les Baer or Ed Brown.

Off the shelf kind of 1911-something by Colt, Dan Wesson, Nighthawk, or a vintage SIG P210.

Darn, mine is not on the list.. Vintage, aka made in Switzerland, SIG 210.

Just throwing this out there, I would love a Colt with the Turnbull treatment of color case hardened colors. I think those are the most beautiful 1911s I’ve ever seen and I would carry it.

Meh, I'm happy as a pig in slop with my 2 Kimbers, so if I really had that kind of loot to spend on another pistol, I'd find a cherry Belgian HiPower.
