IL now has 'written' CCL applications ready - but what a screwed up way to do it

Gob Bless you folks in states like this. You have far more tolerance for ridiculous laws and red tape than I do, which explains why I choose to live in Arizona. You know what we need to carry a firearm concealed or open, absolutely nothing, just the firearm.

I understand why many live in the states like this, based on personal or professional reasons, but I couldn't do it. I grew up in California and moved out of that place at the first opportunity and haven't looked back. I don't miss a single aspect of that over populated, smog choked, liberally infested pit of a state.

I sincerely feel for you brother, truly!

I think it's all a scam. Some of Dear Leader's cronies from Chicago have set up this phony sight so that they can get - and sell - all of your personal information. Tell them to pound sand and move to Indiana or Wisconsin.

Why do people always feel the need to post garbage like this? First, most people can't just move to Wisconsin or Indiana. We have these pesky things called jobs and we don't want three hour each way commutes(or more). Second, we have stuck this out and have came way farther than ANYONE thought we would. We aren't quitters and we definitely aren't walking away when we are winning.

So, thanks for your advice, as condescending as it was.

Oh buddy, if I could I would. I work from home, so I can work ANYWHERE I have a fast and reliable internet connection.

Sadly, where I live in Northern Illinois, you can't sell a house! I just took a $40K hit on my assessed value last year (dropped from $128K assessed to $88K assessed value) and I still owe $104K on the mortgage. And that's down from the highest value (in 2006 I blieve) of $136K. So I can't sell my albatross of a house, or else I WOULD be out of here!

Not in my case. I supplied a digital picture of the size and dimensions they required. They used THAT picture on my CCW permit, not the pic from my DL or from my FOID card.
That's quite unusual - be interesting to find out why they did that - maybe some form of an internal test.

I wonder how many 'operators are standing by' to handle calls.

What happens to folks that work - work in, IL imagine that - hours that make calling in challenging.

but if you want the privilege of carrying you jump though the kings hoops ...

Actually it does make sense. Sounds like if you don't have internet access, the call taker is just filling in the online form for you. As for you having to send a photo, but it's not the one they use, is seems they are just matching it up to the one on file to ensure you are who you said you were to the call taker. Far more ingenious than I ever would have expected from IL.
They use the same photo thing in their FOID process.

Although some find it odd, I think it's pretty smart to ensure there isn't some obvious fraud going on.

Even if someone managed to send a photo of themselves and they looked kind of like the person they were pretending to be, the fraudulent applicant would end up with an ID that has the picture of the person they're defrauding...not themselves. Pretty smart.

This annoys me as well.

What did the colonists do when they felt their God given rights weren't being respected?

They stood up for their rights!

That's what we are doing in Illinois.

Happy 4th, everyone. I'll be spending mine a little more free here in the Land of Lincoln.

I wonder how many 'operators are standing by' to take inbound calls

What about folks with unconventional schedules - I suspect it's not a 24x7 operation

It just seems they made this harder than it should be

Probably 2. lol If it's like the staffing levels they provide to do FOID card background checks, renewals, etc, it'll be criminally understaffed.

Congrats and Happy Independence Day to the good people of Illinois.
I left there in 2004, figuring I'd never be back.

You have made great progress since I left (Chicago's mayor notwithstanding :)) and when I retire I will once again entertain the possibility of moving back there.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Many states' CCW licensing procedures started out as less-than-optimum, and were refined over subsequent years. Keep up the great work, and keep the faith.
