As if the Cabela's thing wasn't enough.

Proposed countywide gun registration. "Assault weapons" won't be registrable, nor will handguns without locks and a loaded indicator.

Registration permits need to be renewed annually.

This is one of the scariest anti gun laws I've seen. Start contacting the commissioners.

Here is the ISRA alert

ISRA Action Alert:
TOTAL COOK COUNTY GUN BAN CLEARS FIRST HURDLE

Rabid gun-grabbers on the Cook County Board came one step closer last week to instituting a total ban on firearm ownership in the county – except for police and military personnel.

Introduced by Commissioner William Beavers, the so-called “Safe Streets/Weapons Registration Ordinance” appears on the surface to be some sort of gun registration scheme. However, closer examination reveals that the only people who could comply with the registration requirements would be Chicago residents who had previously registered their guns with the city. Everyone else in Cook County would have to turn in their guns to the police. The ordinance would certainly ban all handguns as the ordinance disallows registration of handguns that do not have a “chamber load” indicator. Few, if any, handguns could comply with this requirement, so they would have to be surrendered to the police.

The full text of Beavers’ proposed ordinance may be found here. To learn more about William Beavers, click this link: http://www.co.cook.il.us/district04.htm .

William Beavers is an enemy to our Constitution and an enemy to all freedom-loving people of the United States. Call him at (312) 603-2065 and also call his other office at (773) 731-1515 and tell them exactly what you think of Beavers and his plan to disarm law-abiding citizens.

Another gun-hater on the Cook County Board is Larry Suffredin. Suffredin has fielded a proposed ordinance that would shut down all gun shops in the county. You may read about that ordinance by clicking here.

Larry Suffredin is an enemy to our Constitution and an enemy to all freedom-loving people of the United States. For full information on Larry Suffredin, click this link: http://www.co.cook.il.us/district13.htm . Call Suffredin at 847-864-1209 and 312-603-6383 and tell them exactly what you think of Larry Suffredin’s plan to punish law-abiding gun owners.

Even if you don’t live in Cook County, or even if you don’t live in Illinois for that matter, call anyway. Freedom is at stake here.

In addition to calling these gun-hating stooges, please do the following:

1. Post this alert to any and all Internet bulletin boards of which you are a member.

2. Send this alert to all your gun owning friends and ask them to call Beavers and Suffredin too!

Remember – preservation of our 2nd Amendment rights is a cultural imperative. Gun control is a disease; you are the cure!

I like this part: It's a requirement of registerable guns.
A load indicator device that provides reasonable warning to potential users such that even users unfamiliar with the weapon would be forewarned and would understand the nature of the warning;

Um....Unless they're meaning an empty-chamber indicator, there is no gun that I know of that provides that. You have to know to look at the peep-hole (Smith M&P), the extractor(some Berettas), or the other indicator (like the pin on the Walther P99). None of them are intuitive to someone unfamiliar with guns.

I hate to say it, folks, but this is yet another start that we're all going to have to hold off at some point. For Bob's sake, they're banning laser accessories with this bill!! Lasers!!! They are so afraid of anything gun, that they are banning harmless accessories. What's next, Streamlights? Night Sights? Holsters? Maybe the cleaning brushes can be used to kill people too, so they should ban those.

To the people of Illinois: You're going to have to get every other county on-board and pass a state pre-emption, like we did here in Ohio. With such passage, we eliminated bans and restrictions in all of our major cities and set everyone to a state standard. If you want to screw Chicago, that is likely the only way.

Sec. 58-136. Revocation--Denial.

A registration certificate shall be revoked or an application for registration or reregistration shall be denied by the mayor when she finds that:

Anyone catch that? Hrm, I don't see mayor defined in the initial portion of the bill. Beavers, if you are going to cut and paste, you should at least proof read it after the fact.

The truly scary portion of this bill is revealed in the activity log.

In accordance with Cook County Code Section 2-108(z)(1) Amendment or suspension of rules, Commissioner Suffredin, seconded by Commissioner Collins, moved to suspend Section 2-108(h)(1) Prior notice to public; agendas. The motion carried unanimously.

In accordance with Cook County Code Section 2-108(z)(1) Amendment or suspension of rules, Commissioner Suffredin, seconded by Commissioner Collins, moved to suspend Section 2-108(g)(1) Order of business. The motion carried unanimously.

Commissioner Beavers, seconded by Commissioner Peraica, moved that the Proposed Ordinance be referred to the Committee on Legislation, Intergovernmental & Veterans Relations. (Comm. No. 290841). The motion carried unanimously.

Thus with a vote they have neatly ignored their own legal requirements to post a public announcement of their agenda and place/time of meeting, fast tracking this bill straight to the committees. While they have different names and numbers for the committees, its all for show. The Committee on Legislation, Intergovernmental & Veterans Relations is, in reality, identical to the Committees on
* Criminal Justice
* Finance
* Health & Hospitals
* Legislation, Intergovernmental & Veterans Relations
* Roads & Bridges
* Zoning & Buildings.
These committees, despite the various titles, are all comprised of the pres and 17 county commissioners. The score is 5 R to 13 D, with only Peraica on record as anti-gun control, yet his name is attached to that last bit of activity. Lets hope that is an indication of strategy, not appeasement. Time to get on the phone again. The worst part is that I can throw a rock and hit Dupage County, but reside in Cook. Gerrymandering at its finest.

That bill is INSANE. It bans lasers... if you are in possession of a "laser device" in your car, you get a $1000 fine and your car impounded. What the hell is the logic of that? What if it's a bore sighter? I love how the politicians have nothing better to do than just run down a list of gun names. I like how they have the AK-74 in there too. "Aha!" the bastard politician probably said, "I found out about your loophole, you clever letter gun owning devils!".

Seriously, who pooped in his oatmeal the morning he wrote that bill?

this is the same state that made it a felony to have a hidden compartment in your vehicle. i guess they felt it was better to just leave your valuables out in plain sight so the crooks would have an easier time of it.

the same morons made it a class A misdemeanor to aim a laser pointer at a police officer. not a laser sight mind you a laser pointer. does not even have to be turned on. if you have one in your hand and it is vaguely pointed in the direction of a cop, you are guilty.

It's the most corrupt county in the most corrupt state in the Union.

Nothing should surprise you.

Not surprised, but I weep for my home state. I'm just amazed, there are a lot of good, pro-RKBA people all over the state. Of course, that's because Chicago is the 900 Pound Gorilla... WI, you want it?

Wow. As I read it this bill:

Bans all (already banned, of course) NFA type firearms

Bans all handguns, meaninglessly grandfathering those that have an loaded chamber requirement written such that no handgun could possibly comply.

Bans_all_other firearms, grandfathering only those owned and registered before it goes into effect!?

Can they push this through? Only hope left for Cook County will be Heller if this passes.

Sigh....I had no idea that Illinois was such a fascist state when I moved here two years ago. I'd move but between a great job and a ****ty housing market right now, I'm kinda stuck.

The laws they are passing here are moving beyond ridiculous.

Called my commissioners office, and the lady said they are getting quite a few calls today.

I really wish I could move, but am stuck for the present.

Just a quick note, it's been a while. I have lived in Il. (Lake Co.83-97)(Cook Co. 97 to now) and fought the fight here and in Springfield. I have recently taken a different tack and have taken employ at Cabelas' selling FIREARMS in Cook Co. If you've ever heard the term "money talks and bulls__it walks" This is what it looks like. Cabelas spent +- 87 Mil building in Cook Co. not Lake, not Kane, not DuPage. Why? Cause Hoffman Estates gave 13mil in tax incentives and allowed them to be within 30 miles of +- 12Million people. County board president Stoger has been unable to pass his 3% sales tax agenda (present 8.75% would escalate to 11.75%) and is letting his henchman Beavers take the spotlight off his failure to turn 9 of 17 on the board (3 gop) to his cause. Do any of you usually right thinking readers really believe that Cabelas will desist or that Hoffman Estates will let them default? If you could see what I see you would know that the citizens of the area are well armed and getting better armed each day. I only pray Chicago/Cook county Democrats make this huge political mistake in time for the November elections. Especially if the Supremes make the right call in 2008. The Chicago handgun ban will fall in the same breath and Cook County must and will defer to the will of the people. The governor is under investigation and Stroger can't be far behind given how he swindled hid father's position and then hid his cancer during the subsequent election. This board will forever be the example for corrupt government and the stuff is about to hit the fan!!!!

Cook County Gun Owners, here's your representative contact information:
http://www.co.cook.il.us/secretary/HomePage_Links/district_information_.htm#District #14

Call your rep, the sponsor, and at least the suburban reps. Please call or write a letter, don't e-mail.

And, contact your buddies. The ones who own a gun but aren't politically active or that don't frequent these boards or that look down on certain classes of weapons. Let them know that THEY are in the cross hairs like never before. Even the hunters and sporting shooters. Hand hold them, walk them through it, send them the phone number they need to call, pressure, cajole do whatever, but make sure they call. Ride their asses. Make it personal--make them angry at the attack on their rights. And post on every possible board where you might find a cook county gun owner.

This needs to be a ****storm of epic proportions. It may only be a distraction, as noted earlier. It's too draconian to be wise politics. But there is no room for error here.

I just sent Steve Chapman at the Trib an e-mail on this and the gun shop ordnances. We have briefly corresponded in the past and he is a supporter of the 2nd, by and large.

If we can get the word out, some of those County Board Democrats may find they have more gun owners in their suburban districts than they previously though. This is broad enough that it should hit a lot of people that might otherwise ignore an AWB, etc.
