I'm getting a K-31!

I called FGS, Inc earlier this morning and chatted with them for a bit about the K-31s they've got in stock. I talked to a heck of a nice guy who patiently answered all my questions. One quick trip to my dealer for a copy of her FFL and my order's in the mail!

The prices are a little higher than an outfit like SOG or AIM, but FGS is a supporter of the Swiss Rifles forum and their stuff gets excellent reviews. I can't wait to pick up my new beauty from my dealer's shop!

What grade did you get? They don't reference finish or condition, just the price and the pictures look pretty much alike to me.

Anyone buy one from the other sources?

I asked for one of the basic "$124" grade in walnut. If I'm happy with what I get, I may try the next grade up for the next rifle I order from them. After looking over current production ammo costs, I guess I'm going to have to learn to reload to keep costs down.

The great thing about K31s is that pretty much whatever grade you get, they're all in mechanically excellent condition with great bores. And whatever grade you get, you're almost always gonna get one with a stock that looks like its been used as a broom. So no reason not to stick with the cheap ones.

PS -- don't forget to look for the prize under the buttplate.

Why don't you spring for the $30 and get you C&R license? Cut out the middleman and get door-to-door service. You're probably already spending $15 or more to do the transfer.

Nice guns. I have a $300 one from a few years ago (before the latest imports), but the stock is VG+ or better, so that's a major reason why it cost so much. I need to buy some GP11 ammo.

There are some pristine ones floating around, but auction boards are better places to check than dealers, save a specialist like Empire Arms, Allan's Armory, etc.

My K-31 came in today! I picked it up from my FFL and have been grinning ear to ear all day long. It's definitely not one of the "nearly destroyed" variety I've seen at local gunshows. The stock has some minor dings, but this gives it character. The bolt moves smoothly and wickedly fast, and the trigger is the smoothest I've ever had on a rifle. I'll try to get some pictures posted this weekend. And a peek under the buttplate reveals a tag! With a little help from the swiss rifles forum, so far I've translated this:

The number on the stock under the buttplate shows the stock was made in August of 1936, and I'm still trying to verify the serial number range. Still, you can't beat it: A new-to-me gun with match accuracy, and a history lesson all in one.

They are fine rifles. I bought a select grade from AIM shorltly after they first came out. I have another one coming from FGS next week. I can't wait! These rifles are phenomenal!
