I'm looking for a scope and I Need Help!

I just looked, and Midway will sell you a 4-14X SHV for about $900.00. The scope weighs over two pounds also, but hey, free shipping! The one I checked was with a non-illuminated MOAR reticle, and I personally don't need batteries on the scope.

Am I going to c'mon over? I strongly doubt it. Not that the Nightforce isn't an excellent product, it most certainly is. However, I can get the job done with a mere Leupold or Vortex, and have a nice chunk of change to use for other things.

Personally, I'd probably opt for a First Focal Plane reticle if I were going to shoot over 600 yards with it, maybe even closer, particularly if I were going with a graduated reticle that doesn't use evenly spaced subtensions like a mil-dot. Those reticles are nice at closer ranges (I have the Leupold Varmint Hunter reticle), but they're only good within strict parameters, and that narrow definition gets smaller the farther you are trying to shoot. A reticle with evenly-spaced subtensions or a scope with a hand-turnable, zero-marked elevation turret are just shy of a requirement for long range shooting.

Of the three you mentioned, I'd go with the Leupold, but I'll admit I'm a little biased. I love their warranty and service (not that you need it very much), and I like that they're American made, other than the lenses. I don't have a lot of experience with Vortex. I have one of their less expensive scopes on a deer rifle. It seems very well made and I haven't had any issues with it, though it doesn't get shot a lot. Glass seems about what I would expect of a scope in that price range. I have heard good things about their warranty, as well, so you shouldn't be risking much if you went that route.

This is exactly what I have on my rem700 aac sd. But with illuminated center reticules MOAR. So mine was $1100. but like I said you can get it for under $1000 if you don't need the center illumination. Also they just came out with the same thing but 5-20 power. For the same

I was planing on getting nxs as I have one on my scar, but I wanted something that had turret covers so I can drag it through the woods and not worry about branches moving the turrets. So there you go, perfect for what I need. Good scope. I love you nightforce :0)

All good recommendations.
Get more power than you think you need in a variable. You will tend to use higher powers as you gain experience. I bought 8-24X Leupolds, started out at 16X and worked my way up to about 22X in most conditions.
You can always turn it down, you can't turn it up if the range is not there.

There was the guy who said he did not think the 8-80X March was worth the extra expense over the 5-50X, though.

On a known distance range, I would prefer an adjustable objective. The side focus systems, at least the ones I have, are very imprecise and hard to tune for clarity and parallax.

If you are shooting at clear targets at known distances, the various trick reticles aren't much help. You will (should) draw up a chart of sight settings for the various ranges you shoot at.

I've got a vortex viper FFP 6-24x50 and it works perfectly for me. I have it mounted on a Tikka t3 in 308 (20" barrel) with a 20moa rail on it. With a zero at 100m I need to dial 12.5mil to get to 1,000m. I shoot at 10x mag and only use higher for spotting or checking my targets. Image quality is great and I'm really happy with it overall. Might be outside your price range at $900 or so (I'm in the UK so correct if I'm wrong) but definitely consider the model below that suits your price range.

Top, Nice gun...I have the same gun in 25-06 and .223. I have pillar bedded it which is interesting given the one action screw is at a 45. I have used it for years on the local groundhog population. I have a 6-24 on mine but rarely use it above 18X but everyone is different. I use a 6-18 on the .223. If I was buying again I would pick the Leupold and never look back. Everyone talks about NF but I have never looked through one but maybe someday after the kid is finished college and I can spend money again.

Well... I actually put the money out on a scope.

I found a lovingly used Sightron SIII straight 16x for 300. I went for it. Nice, clear glass and enough magnification to get the job done at the ranges I am asking of it for now.
