Well I've been promoted, and I'm moving to Lafayette, LA because of it, so anyone got any good recomendations for me. I'm looking for good places to buy new and used firearms (doesn't have to be THE cheapest as long as service is pretty good, I don't mind paying a little extra for that comfort factor), and a range I can shoot pistols, rifles, and shotguns. I'm not looking for a skeet and trap club, just a place I can check patterning and blow of a few hundred shells. Any suggestions?

I lived there about 20 years ago. I hooked up with some of the local "COONASSES" I worked with and they took me out in the bayous fishin and shootin. A good bunch of people. I had a great time while I was there.

"COONASSES"

Well them good ole boys in Mid Tenn can give them coonasses a run for their money. I went to college at MTSU, and there was always plenty of trouble to be had when I was haning out with the locals. Although the guys from E. Tenn were the wildest bunch.

Well, there are several places to go for your gun fix in Lafayette.

Barney's: They are located on Gloria Switch Rd, just off of Interstate 49. They tend to specialize in more of the police/tactical kind of gear, most of their stuff is new, and I find that the prices are fair. I know most of the regulars who work there, and they are nice guys. They are also an indoor shooting range.

Lafayette Shooters: Located at the corner of Johnston and Ambassador Caffery. They cater to the hunting crowd, don't sell used, but they are ably the people to go to in town for high grade rifles and shotguns. Their pistol selection is also very good, but a little pricey. Service tends to be hit or miss, either nice, knowledgeable folks, or the occasional poor salesman.

Dave's Guns: Located on Kalistle Saloom. They have a pretty broad selection and also stock the most number of used guns. If you are looking for surplus, battle rifles, or something unique, this is the place to go to. Small staff, very friendly.

Custom Gun Works: Located on Johnston. Small selection of guns, large selection of reloading stuff, cleaning supplies, and the like. They are a gunsmith shop, mainly. The gunsmiths meet their quoted time for work.

I've bought a pistol from Barney's, been there for a family purchase at Lafayette Shooters, and had an automatic safety on my shotgun deactivated at Custom Gun Works. Having been in all of these shops, I try to give my buisness to Barney's, whenever possible.

Feel free to send me a PM for more info.

Bergeron:

Thanks. I'll make sure to put those down in my places to visit first. I'm headed up there today to look around and apartment hunt so I might just stop in one or two of those places.
