Simple thing really, we are about to be allowed to carry in parks and restaurants that serve alcohol. A nearby city wants to have an ordinance that overides this, no conceal carry-even to the suggestion of metal detectors.

Many of you phoned in, sent emails and faxes , I appreciate the response very much.

I call some friends,family, classmates and simply make it known this is not a good thing--restricting the CCW from doing so-especially since the legislature just changed the stats. Asked if they would call their Alderman and express opposition.

The reason they don't want guns in parks is because of drug dealers with guns

I respond , "we already have laws for that".

Basically I quoted all the things WE know about criminals, illegal activities, existing laws, enforcement of existing laws, how laws deny lawful upstanding citizens rights and freedoms. Criminals have not and will not abide by these laws anyway. I was polite and let them have their say.

Single mom with a 2 year old -former classmate : I don't think I'd be safe with concealed guns in parks .
Me, concealed means concealed. So a BG is going to do a drug deal , needs money, and you can't carry even if you wanted to while daughter plays on the swings-easy victim. Then again you do look good in shorts and T shirts-maybe drugs or because of dope you sure are tempting. Maybe the seller likes little girls-they each get waht they want--but hey no conceal carry people in the park.
[ FWIW this lady was attacked getting groceries out of her car, she screamed, neighbor working in garden arrived with a hoe, attacker ran off, but not before her front was exposed, skirt pushed up, and panties around her ankles...a few years before she had a baby]

Family member and I didn't fare well either.
Others had negative response.

So I have been told me and my views/suggestions therefore are not welcome.

That's ok, I was a good friend, and I've had family go on their own way before.

I assure you I don't mind the loss, or sacrifice.
 
What I still cant stand is that people think these laws might stop a criminal. Or that they dont think about the fact that the only people that will obey such a law are the good guys. That the drug dealer could care less if its posted no guns. Kinda like the no glass beer bottles at an event. Who listens to that? Nice people. Those rednecks 2 rows bakc on the other hand that snuck in their 6 pack could careless. Did that sign or law stop them? Nope. Cause there is no efficent way to enforce such a law/rule
 
My city is wanting to do the exact same thing. They already are having a vote for "Smoke Free *mytown*". Next on their agenda is no firearms (unlike a law that goes into effect July 17 says) and finally Alcohol-free mytown. FAT CHANCE in a college town. I am really starting to hate all these commies in my town.

Lived in smaller towns, kept moving for security and such. Now I hide in plain site , low profile and tick off the anti's -it seems.

I never attended the brickyard as a student, there is a story many years ago some guy and a blonde gave boxes of 22 ammo to those whom listened to RKBA and encouraged others to join in the cause,...created a stir....ahem...I wouldn't know about that...I wonder how that blond is doing btw...;)

Why can not some people understand laws only affect LAWFUL people?Does not the term criminal mean the some one who breaks the law?
 
It's the usual non-think deal of blaming the thing, not the behavior. Feel-good stuff.

Some people believe that the mere presence of a deadly weapon will magically lead to hostile behavior--yet the same person will take a butcher knife to the table and carve a roast to serve to the family gathered there.

Too many people have developed great skill in avoiding rational thought. it may have taken years of effort, but they finally succeeded...

The people we’re talking about think with their emotions, not their brains. It would be obvious to any clear-thinking person that criminals wouldn’t pay attention to any sign. What these signs are, is “feel good†security support for those who’s heads are deeply planted in the ground. No amount of reason or discussion will get them to change.
 
It may be along shot here, but maybe instead of attacking the city, go straight to the state. Maybe you can convince a pro-gun politician to create a law not allowing cities to have ordinances overiding the state? IIRC Texas has something to this effect regarding CCW.

I am beginning to believe the problem is not with our government as many people like to claim, but the fact that the general population refuses to think any longer. I still firmly believe that the government is, for the most part, still run by the people, but the majority of the people have willingly given up their right to common sense. Oh well, off to take a math test, hope everyone's day is going well
 
In Virginia, Gov. Warner recently signed a state law that overrides any local gun control laws that don't follow the Va. state line. He's a Democrat but I applaud this effort on his part.

The major reason for the legislation was that state park busybodies kept making local law saying that CCW holders couldn't carry in parks. Not any more in the Old Dominion.

Passed the resolution banning CCW in public parks.-yesterday?

They "Just" happened to have passed a law today that allows the selling and consumption of alcohol in their public parks.

I have no problem with those that drink.

I do have a problem with lying ["persons's whom parents weren't married"] playing the politcal game for personal gain, mis-leading the public to get votes--to support another agendi.

OK thats makes sense, one is safer without CCW in parks, I guess having alcohol in parks will come in handy to console one whom gets attacked.

Besides have taken my tacky pill today, been stirring the nest (again) FOI for minutes of meeting, needed. State legislature will be hearing about the law you guys mentioned that pre-emts these little resolutions.

Getting a feel for monies to use some grahics to help promote.

I have only one family member (others have disowned me-I raised them and all that-their choice)so- when mom is gone , I'm outta AR.
 
Every now and then the Texas Legislature has to remind knee-jerk authoritarians that they really don't have any power. The head of the alcohol control bureau decided that the handgun license didn't apply in any place that sells alcohol.- So the legislature told him that he was fos and gave him something to occupy his time. He had to audit every single business that sells adult beverages and put No CHL signs in those that make more than half their income from booze. Then made him print up signs for all the other places that say "UNLICENSED Carry" Is illegal.....

A lot of localities and state agencies were posting every building owned or controlled by the city or some bureaucratic agency until this year when the Legislature told them they had no authority to do so.

Are you saying the resolution banning CCW in NLR parks was passed?
I knew it was on the table but hadn't heard that it had passed?
 
I still don't get how people can get the idea into there heads that Criminals will bother to pay any attention to the law...

They are CRIMINALS, AKA OUTLAWS why would an Outlaw pay any attention to any law?
 
Mike, I was just going to post about that. I am watching the news now,and all these whining bliss ninnies are driving me nuts!!!

If we keep this up we will all soon live in a police state.

What we are dealing with are people whom KEPT Voting for Klinton,...AG...then Gov... then supported him as...err... he was in the Whi...he was in D.C.--okay? Yes that Klinton-- Now you get it. I'm surrounded by sheeple, and they ain't selling bedding.

I've got to finish this semester up....but, been taking my tacky pills, and getting some input form others. I'm a bit overwhelmed with this CIS/IT stuff I'm learning.

I did take a break todayand did a .45ACP vs Floppy test , the green ones gives me better groups and stay together better when the center is missing--Orange ones just break. :D :D

I hate to hear that they passed the law contradicting the state law.
I guess I won't be using the NLR parks.
I'm afraid this will start a ripple effect and other cities in the state will
contradict the state law.
 
It always seems to me that piling up onerous gun laws not only trods upon our rights, they are an utter waste of taxpayers' money and lawmakers' time. When was the last time a criminal checked the laws of the state in which he commits crimes to make sure his gun is legal? Can you imagine a criminal heading to the library or Internet and checking to see if his gun is allowed by law and that the way he obtained it was kosher?
 
Funny story.
An activist around here challenged a similar law (no carry in a city park). He brought a concealed weapon onto park property and called the police and told them to charge him ($100 fine for first infraction). They told him they didn't have training on how to enforce the law yet. So he tries the same thing in a courthouse. See, the "no carry in city park" law is based on a section of the state preemption regulations which grants the ability for municipalities to regulate firearm carry on property they control (thus their ability to restrict it in parks and courthouses). He's arrested and when the story is posted on THR, everyone chews him up because "no one should carry into a courthouse except police and judges. there will be blood running down the bench every time there's an unpleasant divorce!"

Had he been fined on his first infraction in the park (same basic concept - municipalities controlling firearms carry on property they control) I'd wager he would have applauded for standing up against 'em.

As has been said before, concealed is just that, CONCEALED! If no one knows you have it, and your intentions are true, no problem.

As for carrying in places "controlled" by municipalities, courts are one place that I agree on. With stories of bad divorces, and upset persons over decisions, LEO's and maybe judges should be the only ones to carry.

I have seen many make bad judgements, after a hearing, causing them more hardships, ( contempt of court). If you would have added a gun to the event, it might have developed into a disaster.
