LEO ever harass with conceal/carry permit?

in my state apparently they run the plates prior to even walking up to the car; and the plates (assuming its your car) tells them about the ccl.

thats how i found out my dad had a CCL. i had just dropped off my girlfriend and was returning from her neighborhood when four squad cars came my way. two turned into her neighborhood and the other two followed me into my neighborhood, where they then pulled me over. apparently someone in my gf's neighborhood had reported seeing a "lurker" on foot in their driveway dressed in all black. well, i fit that description (black gloves, black hat, black coat, black pants), so they pulled me. they asked me if i had a weapon or a CCL. i said no, and they asked me if it was my vehicle. no, its registered to my dad. they saw i had no suspicious items visible in my car, and when got out they were able to see my fuzzy mocasin house shoes LOL (my gf's house was just 2 minutes drive away), so they let me go. when they told me i was free to go, i asked if my dad had a CCL. they played dumb. apparently, they realized i didnt know about my dad's secret, and they werent going to be the ones to give it away. when i got home i told my dad about what happened, and he told me he'd gotten it to see what the process was like (very easy for him since he's ex-naval air reserve) and to have the option of exercising his right, should he ever get a handgun. its our secret now. my mom still doesnt know...

"Here in Texas, I am obligated to inform the officer that I am a CCW holder, supply him with my CHL license with my DL and if I am carrying."

Ironically though, CHL holders STILL have to do that even though you can carry in your car in TX without a CHL. In other words, if my wife, who doesn't have a CHL, is caught with a gun in the car, she's fine. But if I'm caught with a gun in the car, and haven't told the cop I have a CHL, I've broken the law. Luckily, there is a motion on the TX House floor to fix this little oversight...

I've actually had "Excellent" experiences dealing with LEO while carrying. They have all been positive about it.

I'm sure your "personal" attitude has alot to do with it as well.

seeds,

I know nobody really plans on getting pulled over and I don't know your driving habits, but I certainly wouldn't let the possibility (of being pulled over) prevent you from getting a CHL.

If you have a CHL you're entitled by law to carry. Follow the rules and regulations and you'll be fine.

For what it's worth I've had two interactions w/ LEO while carrying and both times it's been a total non-issue. As others have stated, you may find yourself in a conversation about firearms. It just depend on the officer I guess.

Get your CHL.

Hope this helps a bit.

Take care,

Yea in Texas I hope they fix the Printing issue also. It is funny a LEO friend said when I run your plate it comes up CCL holder if so why did the guys in Austin make a rule that I must inform them.

Cassandra, that guy doesn't look like any DC meter maid I ever saw. Admittedly, I left that town in late 2001 after about five years, and things may have changed. In my time, DC meter maids wore badged white police uniforms and carried pistols and attitude. Some were sort of sexy, truth be told.

Never had that problem because I have not been pulled over since I've had my permit and because in the great state of PA, I don't have to disclose to the LEO that I have a concealed firearm unless he or she asks.

Been pulled over twice with my weapon on me, once for speeding once because my vehicle matched a suspect vehicle (red and white F150's are very common here) Both times I kept my hands on the wheel and when the officer approached on the speeding he asked if I knew why I was being stopped and I said no, but sir I have a concealed weapon and a permit. He immediatly lightened up and said you missed a reduced speed limit sign about a half mile back, its 35 through here man. I said sorry and he walked away. The second one was a bit more scary. It was late at night and I had taken a friend of my girlfriend's home. When I pulled out on the street a PD car that had been sitting immediatly sprung out behind me and turned on its lights. I pulled over and put her in park only to get a loud speaker asking me to step out of the vehicle. I did so, quickly with my hands up and the lamp on the side of the cruiser hit me and then went out. The officer shut off all his emergency lighting and then approached and apologized without even asking me for any info, but said they were looking for a truck like mine being operated by a black female. I let out a nervous little laugh and said "Its okay officer, but I've got a pistol on my hip and permit is with my license in my back pocket" He just goes "Not worried about it son, get on out of here" and left.

So I can't see as to Charleston, WV area cops having any adverse feeling to CCW

i usually get pulled over 2-3 times/year in my personal and as mentioned above i hand the permit with my DL so i dont have to say "I have a gun" and the officer has always looked at it; me; then just hands it back and goes about his business.

Ever try slowing down?

Oregon statute does not require you to inform the office of you CHL (concealed handgun license) on a traffic stop. I was also told that the CHL does not show when they run the license plate as that is tied to the registration of the veh. It does show when they run your individual drivers license.
If it showed on the license plate check, it would show up on my son's and wife's cars should they be pulled over as they are in my name. They do not have CHL's or carry a firearm.

I guess I will have to research a little more to find out if the local LEO would prefer to be advised should I ever be stopped. I want to do whatever makes their job easier.

LEO ever harass with conceal/carry permit?

No.

Nor did they back in the day when there were no stupid permission papers that said one could carry a weapon/firearm/knife...etc.

Criminals ain't wired like law abiding folks, hence the reason we call them criminals.

If one acts like a responsible human being, being civil, polite as they go through the day carrying out activities of daily living (ADLs) chances are, one is not going to have any reason to interact with Police in the first place.

Before carry permits, I have had to interact with Police, and firearms were involved.
I stopped a threat with a firearm, and there was no hassle. Heck, the truth of the matter is, I would have had my butt chewed out , but good had I not been carrying/had access to, and stopped the darn threat.

Motor vehicle accidents, and no hassle. Heck even vehicle problems and the Police suggested I put the guns in the squad car as the vehicle had to be towed,
Etc.

After stupid permission papers come to be:
Law where I was said to inform officer one was carrying concealed.
One example, is the day I pulled up to park in front of a tobacco place and before I was pulled all the way in, youths started a fight- with guns.

I shared this event elsewhere, where I evaded and the whole time I was, one youth kept pointing his gun at me, pulling the trigger and the gun going "click".
He would rack the slide and attempt again...
I was evading...
His first attempts were at the hood of my truck with me sitting behind the wheel.

Youths all left, I had observed from safety, and taken plates and other information.
I marched into tobacco store, like I owned it, grabbed styrofoam cups and proceeded to cover ejected ctgs on sidewalk and parking lot, and kept the scene clean, until officers arrived.

About a min or so after I was face to face with officers, I informed them I was carrying concealed.
The first minute was me holding my hand where they could write down plate numbers, and descriptions I had written down, and me sharing information as to which direction they had left the parking lot.

Officers never batted an eye when I informed them, as State Regs said I was to do.
They asked if was carrying when the event went down, and I said I was.
They asked if I was standing there with one concealed, and I said I was.

"Responsible of you to carry..."
"Good, you are carrying..."

That was it.

They fussed at the store owners and witnesses that were outside at the time.

"Did it dawn on you folks to hit the deck, evade, do something rather than stand there and gawk where you could have been hit by a bullet?

I am the one with the gun, and doing fine with Police.
The unarmed persons ( store employees, public outside,) are the ones getting fussed at by Police.

I hate to burst bubbles, but not all Law Enforcement are Jack Booted Thugs, looking to bust your gonads.
