I have a itch for a glock 17 for some reason or another. I was recently at a handgun training course and several people were shooting glocks including myself. are the size of them comparable to my 21sf or is it closer to the glock 21. and I posted a similar question about this before and it seems summit gun broker is going to have the best price on one, feel free to suggest any other places to get a good price on a used one , since I kinda like the look of the generation one's and two with no finger groves it seems as if it will serve as a glove box/ range gun just curious on you alls input.and ammo is cheaper in 9mm right now

+1 on what Black Majik said. I have a 2nd Gen. G17 and always enjoy shooting it at the range. I wouldn't use it as a IWB conceal carry pistol (a bit too large for that role (IMHO), but as a range gun and/or duty weapon it is very hard to beat. The G17 is a true workhorse (it keeps going and going...;) ) and I have never had any feeding/functioning issues with it whatsoever.

I love my Gock 17. It's my favourite pistol for all the obvious reasons (raliable, accurate, ect.). But you could also buy a Glock 19 and have a fantastic carry gun too.

Arguably The Best 9 mm Combat Handgun Available!

I bought my 3rd Gen G17 in June of 2006, and some 10,500-rounds later, there hasn't been so much as a hiccup! In good hands, the gun is the proverbial tack driver! I added a Hogue Handall grip, Daswon Precision FO Adj sights, and five magazines--including a 33-rounder! ;)

One of the reasons I bought the 9 mm, was that my 3rd Gen G21 was getting too expensive to shoot! The G17 paid for itself in a year, on ammo savings alone--and it's just as much fun at the range! The grip is quite a bit slimmer than the 21's, and the gun has a lighter feel overall. Still, it feels very much like a duty-sized weapon.

In between the above two guns, I bought Judy a G19. What a little swetheart that gun is! I'd have to agree, the G19 can deliver everything the G17 can, in a CCW size. Everybody needs a G19! :D

I have a G19 with 11,000+ rounds through it. It has been through 2 pistol classes. My favorite pistol of all time. I recently bought a G26, and it is now my daily carry pistol. My boss and I went to the range to shoot his new S&W 642. He shot my Glock 26. Turned to me and said "That is just sweet". Went and bought himself one the next day. The G17 is also great if you are ok with the size. It's just a tad large for me, since my primary criteria is that it be concealable.

For my duty weapon I just switched to a G17 from a G19. The 17 feels better in my hands. While the 19 would probably make a better CCW due to the 1/2" less bbl. The 17 could still fill the CCW role.

summit gunbroker is all out where else to get one G17/19?

for a decent price, Im thinking a used one if possible gen 1 w/ no finger grooves

The Glock 17 fits my hand better, but I often go with the G19 since it's easier to conceal in the summer months. The finger grooves on a G17 fit me fine, but I'd really love a G19 with the old style frame. I had a G20 and 21 for awhile and they were just a tad too big. I've also heard that Glock was supposed to come out with a G19SF? But I'm not 100% sure on that one yet. It may be just rumor.

MadMercS55,

Since other Glock models' magazines are being produced with the ambidextrous magazine release cutout feature (I have seen G17, G19, G20, G22, G23 magazines bearing this feature) I don't think that it is such an unreasonable 'leap' of logic to envision where things are clearly headed with the other Glock models. It would appear that Glock is getting ready to offer the ambidextrous magazine release as an option for the rest of its line-up as well as the forward mounted Picatinny rail.

It is anyone's guess if Glock will "slim" down the rear of the other models' grip frames as they have with G21 since the G17, G19, G23, G22 are not as large as the G20/G21 series is in that particular dimension.

I hope that they do continue to produce the current models without the "ambi" mag release and the other 'refinements' since I really don't care for those features anyway.

Glock 17

datruth: G17 and the G22 are built on the same frame. I have both. Very easy to go from on to the other. Generation 3's have ?better? fitting hand hold.
Without question; Glock's have die-hard followers,
Why not rent and shoot. Some; the Glock doesn't ?fit?. Before you purchase RENT and shoot as many different Manufacturers as possible. In the long run this is cheaper.:)
These are not all that I carry; nor are they the first I grab going out the door. Trust; they do go; but I have a 638 that really likes to ride.:)
