I'm thinking of selling my CZ 75 to fund a BHP- talk me in or out of it.

I agree, don't sell it. After a spell of about 5 financially 'lean' years which had me selling some of my favorites just to keep the family afloat, things have turned around abit and that is no longer necessary. That being said, I have made a point to no longer sell guns if I can avoid it all. Instead I just prioritize what I want and squirrel away money until I can get what I want. Still I understand money being tight (its not exactly flowing here now, just a little 'less lean') but I just feel its better for the soul to postpone the buying of something new than to sell and old friend. As an example, it took me two years to get my CZ (a 75b Tac), but it was all the sweeter when it came home.
But thats just me.

I own a Browning Hi-power Practical, and it is now my favorite handgun. I traded a Springer 1911 and a Smith 340PD for it. I should mention it came customized with an Bar-Sto barrel and a C&S trigger job done to it. It fits my hand perfectly, it is accurate, and it looks good. Get the Hi-power, I think you'll really like it.

Note: Most Hi-powers will need a trgger job to clean-up the trogger action.

Yup never sell good guns, especially if you like them. Save up and then buy it. This is especially true with a CZ75 to BHP trade because you're still going to need to come up with a couple hundred bucks even if you sell the CZ. Save your pennies and keep an eye out for good deals. I bought my FNHP from CDNN for a good price.

I learned the hard way to never sell a gun you like to buy a gun you want ... you will regret it.

Better to keep the CZ, save a while longer and buy a BHP sometime down the road.

There is nothing more expensive then regret.

This is so well put that it bears repeating. I've learned this lesson as well... I guess most of us here have. Keep the CZ; save for the HP. :)

If it is possible s don’t sell CZ it is very good gun. Year or Two ago I sold my CZ 75 BD Police and it was my big mistake :banghead: . Now I am waiting for new CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. It is new gun of this year. It looks like Police pistola P 01 but it is steel gun in full lengths not Compact. Mag with 18 rounds. If you want to see look at it there is link

Still not sure what I'll do on this. I do agree that it may not be the best idea to trade/sell a gun when the plan would be to replace it later. However, it is always possible once I have a HP I won't see the need for a CZ (that is doubtful though). Also, I may well like it enough for it to be worth the extra $100-150 in the long run (the loss on the sale and higher price to buy a new one now v. when I bought it originally) and a year without th CZ to enable me to get the HP now.

Still, I do hope that used HP hanging around this forum that is in MD will still be around when I get either my bonus (and I hope it will be enough- I won't know how much the bonus is until I get it) or my tax return.

I have ruled out that FEG. I went back to the shop and it is $399, not $299. That is just too much for a FEG when a used FN/Browning is only going to be around $100 more. At that price I'd rather pay a little more (but not much) on the Charles Daly which is basically an FEG with a nicer finish and the Ashley sights.

CZ vs. BHP

I sold my 75 B, excellent HBE holster, and four hi caps six months ago to finance....something or other that I've forgotten. But I didn't forget the CZ or the holster. In fact I missed them so much that I bought another 75 (a Compact) and I'll soon be getting the holster and mags all over again. I wasted a lot of time, energy and money over nothing. Keep the CZ. They're wonderful guns.

And in MD, getting another CZ when you regret selling it can be very difficult, given the internal lock and fired casing requirements.

I have owned a CZ 75 and an 85 Combat.

Both really excellent pistols that were pointable, reliable and just overall fine shooters. Never had any thing but fine service from either of them.

But I am not going to live forever and there are so many guns out there!

So I picked up a real nice T Series HP. Sold the CZ's

Then got another MK III HP. Sold the T Series.

I will probably pass the MK III on to my heirs.

CZ's are very fine pistols. HP's are, in my opinion, the basis upon which CZ's were created. The "point" of the CZ is nearly if not actually identical to the HP.

The HP has a slightly smaller grip diameter. It just works better for me.

Don't fool around with a clone HP. They will not live up to your CZ's and you will be disappointed.

Get an authentic FN Belgian HP. If you shop you can get a good deal, they are not rare. But you will always get your money back out of it with just a little patience.

I made money on my T Series, if I ever sold my MK III I would make money, but like I said, its a keeper.

I have to say I love my BHP, and it shoots like a dream for me. That being said, it's not like the world is running low on Hi Powers. Mine has a ten character serial number... You may love the HP you eventually buy, but you're probably better off putting a little cash here and there into savings or a sock or mattress or whatever 'till you can grab the HP without selling your CZ. This, and pretty much every board is filled with regret threads of people who sold handguns they really liked and regretted it; I'd say definitely don't join the chorus on that one.

(My sob story was a Colt Elite 10/40, just FYI)

The Browning is a simpler gun, fewer pieces, and its SA only.

The CZ is a more complex gun, has more pieces, and is SA and DA.

They're both great guns, designed to address slightly different needs.

I've got both, like both.

One is not better or worse than the other. (Which is better, chocolate or vanilla ice cream?) Its a matter of taste and preference.

CZ-75 vs BHP

I, personally, own both, and would have to have them pried from my cold fingers before giving either one up. If you cannot find a true FN/Browning model, then try to find the early FM model that was used in the Falklands escapade, the later models (the FM M90 and M95) have a bit of a 'rep for having softer steel in the manufacture. My main shooter (BHP) is an FM frame with an FN slide (twist my arm and I may just tell you the sordid story behind the mongrelization). Parts for the FN will drop right in, but it's best to see your local gunsmith, things come out so much better.

I also own an Arcus 94, shoots fine, but has a bit of a 'hitch in the trigger.
You can squeeze and the hammer will move just a touch, after that, it's a light pull and off she goes. One other thing about the Arcus, the finish is just a bit on the thin side, so watch out for the corners showing through. Also, the shape is not your sveldt Hi-Power style, and will not fit the BHP holsters.
All that said, it would make a reasonable carry piece at a reasonable price.

Bottom line, save up and have the best of both (SA and SA/DA) worlds.
Just the opinion of one who owns the examples mentioned previously.

I have one of the last production models of the Nickel BHPs from 1985 or 86 I forget now.I bought it new. I love this gun. An Heirloon piece IMHO.

A few years ago I bought a C.Z. 85 Combat in Nickel. I looked then both over very carefully and I think I would opt for the CZ. Some say they have tool marks and are junkey. Not mine. It is nicer than my FN made Hi Power both inside and out. The only problem I have with the CZ ove the BHP is that the BHP I have came with nice checkered walnut griips while the CZ came with black plastic grips. I will soon replace them with really nice wood grips from Haken Pek. Assuming he still does this. Otherwise, I can get wood grips for the CZ elsewhere that are as good as the BHP.

Given the nostalgia, and the age of my BHP, I would keep it first. I already promised it to my oldest son. However, my youngest son will get the my CZ 85 Combat with nice grips. I think now he is getting the better deal.

Some say the CZ's have too many tool marks and and are not well made. IMHO, that is BS. MY CZ is better made than my BHP.

I neve thought I would say that. I love the BHP and it sells for more than the CZ but I think the CZ is first rate. No bones about it. I like all steel guns and the CZ cannot be beat. Problem is most gun dealers don't stock them or know what they are about. Their mistake.

You really can't go wrong with either. If you prefer single action, get the BHP. I like the option of having both. Never thought would say that beause I am a big fan of Single action Auto's. The CZ made me re-evaluate. I won't sell ether of them. I love them both.

Yeah, I was only on the fence before and all the sage advice here has convinced me that it is best to keep the CZ. I really love my CZ and I figured that I'd have to buy another if I sold this one anyway. I don't know what my bonus will be, but if it comes out to enough to buy the used HP that is for sale here, and if it isn't sold, I will probably go that way. If it isn't available, there are regularly used HPs in the $450-500 range. I just have to wait to find one.
