I'm been a big Ak guy for a few years and I just noticed that I'm wanting more MBR's in .308 ever since Wolf 7.62x39 both became scarce and almost doubled in price over the summer (can still find some for less than $100/1000). I picked up a DPMS .308, now I getting an FAL and I already want a PTR-91K. I have been thinking of selling some of my AK's (AMD-65, Saigas) and just keeping the really nice onces (Kreb's KTR-03S, VEPR K, Saiga 12) to use the money for more .308's. I figure that it is probably that I loved AK's so much because they were inexpenseive and very cheap to shoot as well. Now that ammo is more money, I want to shoot less 7.62x39 and more .308 because they are so much closer in price since 7.62x39 increased in price and most .308 has not increased much if at all. Does this make sense?

In the end, instead of having multiples of types of AK's, I want to have 1 of each of the military MBR's in .308. Sounds like a plan to me. More bang for the buck.

Also, are there any other semi-auto .308's that you would suggest I pick up? Have to be hi-cap (more than 10 rounds, no VEPR, Saiga).

M1A and the M14 are both excellent MBR's in .308.

I know and I'd love to get one, but it's too bad no one makes one for around $1000 or even under. Correct?

You went out and bought a DPMS 308 and a FAL because Wolf 7.62x39 was getting too expensive?

I'm afraid that I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish. It just seems like you're spending a lot of money on rifles to save a little money on ammo....

Given this, it would seem to me that you've already got the based covered (FAL, AR-10, PTR91) with the exception of the M1A.

How would you be saving money on ammo again?

I agree on diversity in weapons/calibers within limits.

Actually, the Saiga .308 can be readily converted to use G3/CETME magazines. This gives you 20 rounds at a time, which in .308 is more than enough.

Much too much is never enough.

However, an overlong magazine does have important tactical considerations.

hartzpad, may I humbly suggest that like with your AK collection you spend the money and get top of the line .308 rifles?

A DSA FAL Para, a PTR-91, and a LRB M-14SA would cover the "big three".

After that you can enter the world of .308 ARs...

So many rifles, so little money...

Like I wrote, I already have a DPMS AP4 16" barrel .308 and I'm about to get an FAL carbine. I don't feel that the DSA para is worth the money ($1400?) compared to a well built STG-58 carbine.
