Since very few cities have hunting seasons and most city dwellers don't own enough land for shooting on their own lands, his statement would be plausible. Responsible gun owners wouldn't be shooting indiscriminately so he would know nothing about them. The only gun owners he's aware of are the criminal element kind. Please name this potential anit-gun politician because I definitely don't want to be voting for someone who's already twisting things into half truths.

You could always try the self fulfilling prophesy argument. Since cities tend to restrict ownership of handguns, the majority of said handguns are in criminal hands and as a result used in furtherance of their craft. In this way you take the focus off the weapon and on the criminal where it belongs.

This is probably true in NYC, Chicago, and DC, but not so much in other cities. Good point, though, and certainly valid since most of the surveys the anti-gun-rights crowd use in their arguments are most likely conducted in such cities.
