Just a couple of quick notes regarding the two Indianapolis area ranges mentioned earlier in this thread.
Marion County Fish & Game
Nice people, but due to encroachment by residences around the facility (stupid zoning decisions, since the club has been there since 1907), the only shooting permitted is rimfire handgun & rifle, centerfire handgun, and blackpowder rifle & pistol. No centerfire rifle of any sort. They do a good job of holding various handgun matches there on a regular basis, such as pin shoots, and bullseye matches. One hundred yard maximum range.
Boone County Conservation
Very limited facilities and limited hours. No shooting benches, other than one at 100 yards, which is also the maximum range. Besides monthly trap shoots, I am not aware of any organized shooting events at this range.
While I do shoot at both ranges on an occasional basis, I believe that Wildcat Valley just north of Lafayette is a much superior facility to both, and much more active in the form of shooting events being held.
FWIW,
