I am really considering an H&K P7. What can those of you who own them tell me??

1. How many rounds can you shoot before you have to put it down to cool off?
2. For how long do you have to let it cool off for?
3. What is the barrel life and when reached what do you do then?
4. How accurate is this pistol?
5. Can you use FMJ from Walley World, I've heard only JHP. WHY?

Any and all info would be nice as I am considering selling my 2 XD's to purchase the H&K.

Note: I love my XD's and have not found a better pistol in all my 56 previously owned firearms.

1. it gets warmer with every magazine. the most that i have put through mine is about 100 rounds could have done more but had other guns with me. the last time i shot mine i only put 3 magazines through it and it was already geting warm.
2.have not timed the cooling.
3.dont know.
4.verry
5.yes. you cant use exposed lead.

my favorite pistol

I've owned a P7M8 and a P7 PSP. They are fantastic pistols.

1. Usually between 75 and 100 depending on speed.
2. 5-10 minutes
3. ? I don't expect to shoot enough to wear out a barrel
4. Extremely accurate and very fast follow up shots
5. I have used everything from WWB to +p hollow points with no problems

If you haven't shot a P7, try to before buying just to make sure you're comfortable with the squeeze cocking system. I would take a P7 any day over 2 XDs.

I have to agree with the above. I shot my M8 today in a cold indoor range. I was happy to have my P7 Heater. Usually, 100 rounds, and it gets a little too hot for comfort. Today, I fired about 200 rounds, and it still wasn't too bad.

You can shoot any jacketed ammo, not just JHP's. Because of the polygonal barrel, you are pretty much restricted to jacketed bullets.

I don't know how many rounds it would take to wear out the barrel, but std velocity rounds should put it up above 60 k. That is a very subjective number I realize, but 1911's will get this, and a polygonal barrel should get more.

I have found that the P7 doesn't cool off quickly. It generally takes a good 10 minutes to cool enough to continue shooting. To me, this is one of the only drawbacks to the P7, and not enough drawback to not recommend it. It is a wonderful handgun.
