Always wanted to fill my desire for my first 10mm 1911 with a 6" version. No particular reason other than the little extra sight radius, maybe 25 fps more velocity...and they look cool, of course!..... Always thought I'd save up for a Dan Wesson Bruin or a Kodiak, and I almost did......until I saw this Kimber offering at 40% the cost of the DW.......I was sold on it instantly.

First range trip, I went ahead and started out with my lightest handloads I had on hand (this gun will likely never see a factory load in its life, besides maybe the test load from the factory) and it cycled 100% smooth. No hiccups. I definitely need to get used to the relatively light single action trigger pull. I wasn't super accurate with it for the first several shots, but was able to bring it in tighter after a bit. This happens to me every time I fire a new handgun, they are all different and they all have their own quirks that take getting used to. Screenshot_20231205_223158_Gallery.jpg
I forgot to bring a screwdriver set (it's normally always in the bag), but nope not this time! So the grouping is to the left this first visit, no biggie. But the last 20 or so rounds I fired are all pin high, left in a golf ball sized ragged hole....what I was hoping for. The adjustable target sights Kimber put on it are gorgeous and well made. I swapped out the grips that had the kimber logo on them for some Rosewood Colt ones I had laying around, and they look perfect. I'm not a huge fan of logo grips outside of maybe some small gold medallions....

I moved up to some full powered 10mm ammo. (I set up the Chrono and fired some 180 grainers going avg. 1350 fps. at 5 yds) After inspecting the spent casings, I was pleased to find the brass not bulging like you'd sometimes find in 10mm ammo of this power factor, fired from certain guns. So far I'm of the impression that the chamber support is good to excellent, and in the 100 or so rounds fired I had zero issues feeding.
So far, this gun is an A+ in all domains......

How about a couple questions for ya'all...
1) Should I consider different weight springs for different ammo power or just replace the factory spring at any given interval?
2) Any shock buffer of any kind recommended or no, just run it?.... I don't use shock buffers in any of my .45s

As for #1, if it cycles fine with all of the loads, leave it be. Or, if you don’t want your brass flying into the next county, you can increase the spring weight to slow it down a bit. I did that with my G20, but the heavier G40 doesn’t really need a spring adjustment.

Can’t answer #2 as I no longer have a 1911 in 10MM.

Enjoy the Kimber.

Kimber does do a good job with the sights on their adjustable-sighted 1911’s. (I am very happy with the sights on my Stainless Target II.)

Very nice to read about your new 10mm! It sure seems like you have taken to it right away. :D

The longslide will bring the most out of the 10mm, it looks like it will be a good shooter for a long time.

Stay safe.
