They're fitted by means of a press & die.

Well- I have plenty of gas checks that are made of aluminum- and they work great.

Putting GC's on bullets not made for them is a whole 'nother ballgame, but is a specific field of study in cast bullets. It is often done. Google can guide you to many of these studies, unfortunately we don't have a great casting library to draw from here.
