I have a 1959 Romanian SKS...a nice one really. I would like to put a tech sight on there if I can avoid cutting off the takedown pin. The directions say to dremel the thing off.

The take down pin is held in the receiver by a tiny little nub of a pin. It is distinct enough that I can't tell if it is welded or soldered or machined...or it maybe it is just a tiny solid pin, press fit into an equally tiny hole. Obviously that way, I might be able to pull it out and put it back, thus not making it permanent.

Does anybody with SKS experience...presumably Romanian SKS experience...know if this can be done without any cutting? I don't want to just jump in there and grab it with a pair of pliers unless I know I've got some likelihood of success.

Thanks.

It is a solid pin pressed in. You can buy a replacement take down pin if you messed up.

I have the tech sight on my norinco sks. Cutting off the nub that holds the take down pin is a small price to pay for the upgrade in the sights...they are AWESOME!

I've heard mention that you can drive that pin out of the takedown lever, but never found an SKS that would allow it. I had to grind all mine down.

I'd do it on an already chopped Norinco, but wouldn't want to mess up the collectible value of any others.

I think it's going to be darn near impossible to get the pin out without cutting it. Agree with the others, the sight is a huge improvement but at the cost of cutting your pin. I used bolt cutters on mine.
