Interesting little article

You know the sky is not falling, but there are definitely some clouds on the horizon. The article paints an ugly picture, but it would take an act of God or some other terrific event for them to take away RKBA. Now, infringement step by step is sure to come, but a total ban, while not out of the question, is completely unsupportable right now.

I don't really think it could happen just like that. For one a single person inst going to override a hotly debated issue like the 2nd. It could happen but I don't think a single person could.

Let a few nutbags go into multiple elementary schools across the country and start shooting. Let the video leak to the press. With dead 5 year old's plastered across the evening news they could easily pass such legislation.

Disarming millions of law abiding citizens and make them defenseless against unlawfully armed criminals on the off-chance that this will prevent some crazy person somewhere from acting out just seems like a bad plan to me. I guess I should have gone to law school so I could understand this kind of sophisticated reasoning.

A FREAKIN MEN............nothing good ever comes out of Washington. It only comes out of our pocket books....:cuss:

"Aussie Gun Law Results

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got the following from the internet so it may be true, may not, but it might be what could result from the current administration.

Australian Gun Law Update

Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts...

From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down
Under.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a
new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own
government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million
dollars.

The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,

Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6percent;

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300
percent.

(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did
not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed
robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12
months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the
elderly, while the resident is at home.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has
decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in
'successfully ridding Australian society of guns.' You won't see this on
the
American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State
Assembly
disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest
citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the
law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it's too late!"

It would take one more justice like Stevens

Who said
Specifically, there is no indication that the Framers of the Amendment intended to enshrine the common-law right of self-defense in the Constitution.

and

The opinion the Court announces today fails to identify any new evidence supporting the view that the Amendment
was intended to limit the power of Congress to regulate civilian uses of weapons.

As I read Heller & the Dissent, I am not inclined to believe that this decision will stand for long without being challenged. If the court loses a generally conservative justice he will be replaced by a less conservative one. The right of localities to ban guns will be reinstated. I don't know how each of you define RTKB, but to me the people of DC lost that long ago.

Storm clouds indeed. I hope for a little calm before then as I'd like a few more EBRs.

Time will tell. I will be the happiest to be wrong.
