I've found what, I believe, will be my next revolver. It's fairly unique though, and I'm hoping that some members may be able to shed some further light on it. I have several questions about it as well.

First off, this is an NIB Model 25-13 in .45 Long Colt. However, this is not the Mountain Gun; rather it bears more of a resemblence to the 625 series. It has a 5" barrel with the full underlug as opposed to the 4", semi-underlug barrel more commonly seen on the MG.

Second of all, this is from one of the numerous "Limited Edition" production runs that S&W seems to offer every month. It has "Rocky Mountain Sheep" inscribed on the right side of the barrel and an image of a bighorn sheep head on the plate. Supposedly, this is/was a run of 300 guns. I am not a collector and plan on shooting the daylights out of it. After handling it, it's a typical N-Frame - solid, sturdy, and tough as nails. Are the S&W Limited Editions produced by the Performance Center?

Thirdly, there are a few other features that make this one of the more unique S&W's I've seen. It must be fairly new as it has their infamous lock. :barf: The blued finish on this gun is one of the most beautiful I've ever come across. This is the only thing that gives me pause about shooting it a lot. I'm just not sure if that color could ever be replicated. It also has the enclosed fiber-optic front sight - again, something not found on the typical 25/625 family. Finally, it comes with what appears to be a fluted, titanium cylinder. This provides an interesting contrast to the dark blue frame. Can titanium be re-finished to match the rest of the gun?

I have heard that S&W's 45 LC models can have the cylinder modified to accept moon-clips. Is this the case? Would that titanium cylinder pose any unusual problems for this modification?

What types of .45 LC ammunition can the N-Frame handle safely? This will be my first gun in the caliber and it's got to be one of the more confusing in terms of ammo do's and don'ts. Would Reed's/Corbon/Grizzly/Buffalo Bore +P stuff be OK or should I stick to something a little more tame, like Speer Gold Dots or Winchester Silver Tips?

All apologies for the length of this post but I'd appreciate all of the information I can get before committing to this purchase. FWIW, I think I'll be getting a heck of a deal - under $500 before tax. Thanks in advance.

I was looking at getting my 386 milled out to accept moonclips, and what I found out is, that almost any revolver can be modified to accept them, and while titanium cylinders can be milled, they take special equipment to do it right. Not every gunsmith that does the milling can handled titanium cylinders.

I contacted Tom at Tkcustom a couple of months ago, and got an estimate for about $100 to do the milling. Try www.tkcustom.com for more info.
