The Foreign Academics brief consists of several foreign scholars who point out that the D.C. Gun Ban is actually worse than many European gun laws and that the right to self-defense is an internationally recognized right, even if not recognized in D.C.

As a bonus, THR was able to play a small but important part in the writing of this brief and several THR members made contributions to it. This brief is aimed at the Justices who place an emphasis on international law since they may be critical swing votes on either the nature of the right or the type of scrutiny applied.

No one has responded to this? Well, here's a response - GOOD. I was curious what would happen re: international law.

I do not want to single anyone out and not everybody who is involved may want to be singled out; but most of THRs staff offered at least some assistance in different forms.

Agreed. Petitioners' merits brief tried to assert that their law is the normal set of affairs for other Western democracies and they edited a quote to buttres this stand. The brief provided the unedited quote which showed that Petitioners' laws are stricter than ~70% of those countries.

The self-defense aspect of the brief was also interesting.

Very interesting, in view of Barabara Frey's work for the UN IIRC to find there is no internationally-recognized right of self-defense, for the committee that seeks to ban all light arms except for government use. This was back in 2006. The Brits tend to imprison people who act in self-defense too. A good review, anyway.

Very Good. And topic that needed to be brought up. Thanks

I'd like to thank those who worked on the International Scholars brief. I got a look at it before it went to SCOTUS and thought it was excellently done. Imagine, France is much more gun-friendly than D.C. Amazing.

One other group that contributed to this brief that should be recognized is any THR member who ever sent a tiny donation to help keep this site running. Because of that, we were able to get together and organize the effort to assist with this brief. When we win this fight, it will be because of all of the strong grassroots effort.
