Firearm microstamping.
coming soon to a gun store near you.

every spent cartridge from your gun will have your guns serial number engraved into it.

one day the government will put computer chips in all guns, so they can track them and turn your guns off with the push of a button. they may not take your guns, they will just cripple your guns.

Microstamping is impractical. What they'll do is tax and regulate them out of existance. Look at Chicago after the McDonald decision- Daley hurried some new legislation in, it was rubberstamped by the city council and it's still nearly impossible to legaly own a gun there. That makes thousands of otherwise law-abiding citizens criminals. Another way is to just come and take them after a disaster, ala Katrina. There is supposedly legislation in place to prevent that, but what's to stop someone like the afore mentioned Daley from sending his thugs around to collect them in the wake of an earthquake or terrorist attack?

I think the big picture is a little grander than just micro stamping.

Used to be when your closest neighbors were measured in miles you could hunt or shoot just about anywhere. Urban sprawl coupled with population has now brought those of us who hunt down to a point whereby just shooting something for supper is a big deal.

Incremental passage of what seems small at the time ends up removing the ability to maneuver past all the road blocks set forth to control a populations actions. Laws are kinda like building something. You start out with many parts that in themselves are not that useful but once they all come together you have a very useful (fill in the Blank)or road block. Really depends on where one works and lives.

The article stated that spent brass picked up and reloaded or a simple wet stone would defeat the markings.

BGs are not stupid so that leaves us with the majority of uninformed making feel good decisions based on something that only works in their minds.

I talked to my state representative about microstamping a couple of months ago. He said that less than a handful of legislators would vote for this. Only the most extreme. Such legislation will never pass in Alabama unless the entire make-up of our state legislature changes. It would HAVE to FORCED on us at the federal level.

I think we've all heard of micro-stamping. As yet it hasn't really gotten very far. As we're not discussing an actual proposed or enacted LAW, this isn't a legal question, and I don't see much reason to get everyone riled up over it again.

Yeah, and maybe one day all guns will only be able to shoot jello. But this is the legal forum, not the "Chicken Little, sky is falling ... someday" forum.
