It seems like alot considering the receiver I'm ordering is only $50.

The gun store that is charging $25 is close to me though and they've told me exactly what I need to do to get it going, so I might just go ahead and use them.

$25 is fair.

I pay $20 flat to my guy.

He charges 25 to the rest of the public. I am regular and i bring him a lot of buisness.

Well lets see, I got to take the time to mail out the FFL, then take three - five phone calls saying "is it there yet?", then unwrap it when it comes in, then log the gun in, then either call or get another phone call about it, then do the background check, then log it out..

If that aint worth $25 of my time, then most respectfully, go use someone elses license.

I've paid as high as $35, as low as $15.

$15 is a special deal that my gun club has with a local FFL, his normal rate is $25. $25 seems to be a pretty common figure 'round these parts.

I know of one FFL who charges $10. I've never used him because his establishment is not at all geographically convenient. The savings doesn't warrant the extra hour's drive.

$20-25 is the going rate around here. The highest place I know charges $35. A few posters report getting charged $10 or even less, but usually that's with a friend doing it for them.

I pay $25.00. I go the hours drive though. The local FFL wanted 10%!! I recenly fell into some deals. I would have gone broke paying 10% per firearm. His way or the highway. I hit the highway and support another FFL. I drive by three FFLs to get to the one I use.

I've heard of FFLs charging a percentage, but I sure can't understand it. What's the difference between opening a box that contains a $3000 pistol and one with a $300 pistol?

Yeah, that would suck for your usual gun but I could handle 10% for what I am buying right now. This AK receiver is $49.

Quite reasonable.

'course you could pay for a storefront, business liscence, insurance, utilities, and the FFL and save yourself the $25.

Man, and I felt I was getting ripped off.

I priced around and found some pawn shops that hold an FFL will order in something for me for a $10 flat fee (not including shipping). I have found two such shops in my area that will, and have, shipped in for such a price.
However, my local gunshop required 20% the value of the item, or $20 (whichever is more).

Call your local pawn shops to see if they can offer you a better price.

WalMart thinking again.

What ya all gonna do when the local FFL goes out of business because some people think 25 bucks is too much?

I like to save a few bucks also, but do most of ya know how much it costs to keep the doors open now a days?

My costs to keep the doors open is the first 7% of a sale. After that I start to make money. At todays WalMart thinking, 10% is a typical markup and still be competative. Thats a 3% profit. And not 3% on a million bucks either.

Ya don't don't know what ya got till its gone.

A receiver is still a "firearm", and requires the same amount of paperwork as a complete weapon. I don't see $25 as excessive, although I charge less myself.

I pay 25. And with my guy its well worth it. He inspects every gun that comes in and has even ground off a lot of burrs off the insides of a Chuck Daly. No charge.

$25 is quite fair - don't forget that ANY FFL holder subjects himself to many requirements, including surprise inspection, and much possible harassment, from the BATFE.

One FFL in my area charges 75, which seems too high to me!

I'd ask how much for a multi-piece shipment - if you're ordering from CDNN or such there's always something else to buy!

$25 is absolutely fair and reasonable. Mine charges me $15 or 5% whichever is lower but that is a "good old boy" price.

The closest shop to me charges $50, one guy in my city who never answers e-mail or the phone wanted $25 -- but who cares? I can't use him if he doesn't answer. Another one (Gun Sport North in Lawrence) will only do "person to person" transfers. I can't figure out what the Hell that means or why anyone would need that service. They don't do out of state transfers and refuse to send along their FFL. That leaves me with only one other place who will help me -- they want $40 -- so that's what I'll be paying for my gun transfer. Consider yourself lucky....:fire:

$25 seems to be about the average. I got screwed and had to pay $50 once. (expressed my opinion and displeasure - never returning) I pay $5 -$10 now through brother. Is it worth $25 to you to get the $50 reciever? It's all up to you.

It's a service the FFL provides. He's not making any profit otherwise and I certainly don't expect him to do it for free. $25 is what I paid last time. I thought it was fair.

Now when the car dealer tried to slip that $40 "paperwork fee" on me at the last minute....well, Mr. Dealer, you can keep the car. Oh, you mentioned the contract? Please point out that $40.00 "paperwork fee" that I agreed to and I'll pay it. What do you think happened?

$25 is cheap for my area - MD/DC metro. i'm going to be paying $60 for my ffl transfer. most places around here charge $50 for regulated firearms (pistols and assault rifles), but the $60 guy is the only one within an hour of my house that accepts shippments from non-ffl holders.

if anyone knows of anyone in MD that is cheaper and accepts shipments from private citizens, let me know.

I've heard of FFLs charging a percentage, but I sure can't understand it. What's the difference between opening a box that contains a $3000 pistol and one with a $300 pistol?

Moreover, if he's just doing the transfer and I didn't buy the gun from him, what business is it of his what I paid for the gun in the first place?
