Is a "Quiet" Caliber Physically Possible?

there are some very light loads for 32-20 out of leverguns that are nearly silent....but it is so light you are recommended to check the barrel between firing to make sure the bullet actually had ehough pressure to be pushed fully out of the barrel

Just buy a Can

And no you dont need subsonic ammo. supersonic is not as quiet but it will be hearing safe

a good 22RF can will drop it to 110-115 db on a bolt rifle (110db is dry firing levels) and 120's on a pistol (even quieter if you shoot wet)

a 9mm pistol can will drop it into the 120's

AND

transfers are taking around 1 month or less now

I have wondered about the possible feasibility of building a barrel whose muzzle automatically blocks/plugs immediately after the bullet passes, leaving the gasses to escape through some slower, quieter means.

ctdonath

that sounds like it would be complicated, but would work to seriously emimiate noise.

however, it would be considered a supressor/silencer, and hey, there are already a ton of easier ways to make those, so you are just reinventing the wheel

Yes. Here is a link I started with just such an ammo, specifically Aguila Super Colibri. I am presently doing some accuracy and penetration research with this ammo. The penetration is impressive to say the least. I am testing various targets and will post a follow up thread when I am done.

I will give one hint: even at a mere 500 FPS, these 20 grain Super Colibri rounds penetrated both sides of an inflated basketball, plus both sides of an inflated volleyball and still had enough power to lodge approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch into pine board.

This is not a sissy ammo.
