I just got my M&P 45 Midsize back from a local gunsmith, who installed some Triji nightsights for me. I had my second range session today and was ready to go with 300 rounds of target ammo. First range session was around 3 weeks ago and put 200 through it.

First mag the second round of Speer factory ammo jams. Round is stuck in chamber, and striker is not firing. Remove mag, and still cant rack the slide to eject the round, and it wont fire either. Finally range guy sees me struggling, and helps eject the round by pushing the slide against the booth shelf with considerable force, and it finally ejects. :what:

I guess if it was a real situation, I'd be dead. Not good.

So i keep at it, with different ammo, no snags so far, except:

I notice that when the last round fires, the slide locks open, and if I insert the next magazine with any force at all, the slide releases and chambers a round.

I show the range guy, and he comments on how easy it is to release the slide with a loaded magazine. It doesnt happen with an empty mag, but with a full one.

Do I have issues with this weapon? This is my first semi auto, so dont really know for sure.

Any advice is welcome, thanks.

All my auto are 1911's But if that was mine i would have it looked at again , but im not use to the internal working af the m&p ,maybe if yu havent already check the book .

Can't say anything about the jam, I've only put 205 rounds through my M&P .40 with one jam because my girlfriend was too weak to rack the slide.

However, I have also noticed if I insert a magazine with force it releases the slide. I'm not too concerned about it. You are going to do it anyways, so just as well it does it for you.

I had a similar problem with the two free mags I got from the rebate. I figured out the problem when I had to diagnose the problem I was having with the two mags that came with the gun.

At about the 600 round mark (approx. 300 through each mag) the original mags were letting the 3RD from last round tip forward enough to catch the case mouth of the round on the front of the magazine body and jam the gun. I ordered up new springs from Midway and that problem was solved.

When I finally get the rebate mags I had the same premature release problem as you....ya ya haha  Anyways I find that the brand new springs are at least an inch shorter then both the springs that have about 300 rounds on them and the new ones from Midway. Luckily I bought 4 new springs, two go into the new mags and totally fix the premature release.

Its probably your mag springs not exerting enough pressure on the slide stop to keep it locked and not you!

I have owned five different M&P pistols. I never had a problem with any of them. I've seen this happen at the range many times. I would suspect the ammo first. Try different ammo. Then look at the gun. If you have already put 200 rounds through then it should be broke in by now.

I've got full size 9,40 and 45 M&P's. I would think the stuck round was just a bad round if you haven't had another problem. I got a fired round stuck the the chamber of my CZ75 last week. Pain to clear but I didn't have another problem. Millions of rounds are being pumped out an you get a bad one every so often.

Alot of polymer pistols will release the slide when slamming home a fresh magazine. Not sure why but I had a Glock 17 that did it all the time. I would just shoot away.

The very first round chambered (124gr GDHP) in my wife's M&P 9mm got stuck on the feed ramp and did not chamber properly at first. I thought oh great. That was about 800 rounds ago and I have not had another stoppage with any of my M&P pistols or rifle. David
