Is it sacrilegious to bubba an early model Winchester 12?

I saw two. One for $168 and one for $158. I think the bigger problem is, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, those Winchester barrels aren't exactly drop in replacements. They have to be matched to each gun somehow.
They are not direct swaps. I have 4, the latest one I put together from two different guns. Had to gave a bit of machining done on the gun to make it fit. It's very simple but not something Bubba can do at the kitchen table.

So what do you think. Good to go or Sacrilegious

Please don't cut the barrel on that gun. I couldn't do that to any of my heirlooms. I have a 22" cut barrel I'll sell you for less than the cost of the ones above, shipping included. But it's only the barrel and extension, no locking ring, mag tube, etc. If you're interested, shoot me a PM and we'll talk more.

Those are actually not as common as Model 12's, but they are less expensive because they were thought of as a cheap version of the Model 12. They're still 1000 times better than the 1200 which replaced them

I have my Dad’s old model 12. I did what you want by buying a ”riot” forend. They’re out there and can be found. Option two: you’re only gonna have one of your Dad’s model 12’s, so I wouldn’t monkey around with it, other than to maybe have choke tubes installed. Also dept: I got a “12” in 20 gauge that has an unbelievable good fit for me. You-know-who strike me with lightning if I ever monkey around with it. See how dad’s gun fits you. And what condition is the “dad” gun? There are plenty of el cheap-os out there you can do whatever to. There‘s only one “dad” gun to pass down to the family. Theyare NOT, as they say rare, as a group as was mentioned.

I'd leave Dad's alone and get a second one to mess around with.

Remember that heirlooms should be considered held in trust by each generation for the next.

A model 12 is a very good take-down gun. Both mag tube and barrel detach from the receiver.
If you're not a wingshooter and your gun is collecting dust, them go for it.....make it into what you want.
..I have a history with model 12s. If I find an old hunting gun with relatively low round count...I will be tempted to make a trench type HD gun out of it.

Special place in Hades for bubbas. You will spend all your days trying to super glue parts back together in extreme heat only to have them fail on your first bird, A buzzard.
