Here's the situation:

I have a pretty extensive collection; a little bit of everything. But for some reason, I never picked up a Beretta 92. Always liked them, fit my hand good and all that but never had a compelling reason to put cash down for one.

Here's where it gets interesting: in that magic time we call the 90's, I was able to pick up (rather cheaply) about a half dozen "regular" capacity factory military magazines (with the metal followers) for the 92. I think a lot of people did that; buy mags for guns they didn't have yet, but anticipated getting. I did the same for M1A mags, Glock 21 mags and ParaOrd mags.

But now since they've discontinued the 92FS I wonder if now is the time to do it? I know they won't disappear overnight, but should I just step up now and not take any chances?

What do you guys think?

I understand that they're disco'ing the 92FS platform in favor of the new Ninety 2 and the PX4; it'll take a long time for new old stock to get out of the pipeline but who know exactly how long? I don't want to wait for the prices to creep up.

Hey I just thought of another reason to get one: when I'm training new shooters it would be nice to have a full-size 9mm. Cool.

I just purchased my first 92fs about a week ago. I was looking for a full size 9MM shooter, and decided to try the 92. I've only put 100 rounds through it, but it actually shot like an "old friend". I was shocked how accurate I was with it from the very first magazine. My only regret is that I didn't purchase one sooner.

By the way, CDNN has/had them for: $419 (92FS), or $429 (M9). Phone # 800-588-9500.

Wow - 419 for a 92FS! I wonder if you can find the 96 for the same kind of price; I've always wanted the beretta 92FS...but in .40cal :) Anyone seen any good deals on the 96? It's christmas tiiime... ;)

Headless

CDNN has some used 96's (F & G) for $299-$350, depending on model & condition. Add $10 freight per order. I've been dealing with Marshall. Seems to be a nice fellow. Takes my credit card # and everything:) .

Looks like i need to find a local place to receive the transfer; that's a great deal.

I have shot a lot of rounds through both of my 92fs' and I'm glad I have them. If it were me, those mags sitting there would have called me into buying a compatible pistol...ASAP! Cest la vie
Now's the time...get that Beretta & enjoy it....If I were to do it today, I'd give an Elite a good long look ;)

My good man, what are you waiting for?
(My 1990, Italian-made 92FS)

I've had a 92FS inox for a few years now, and I just picked up a NIB Italian-made (imported by Beretta USA) 92FS for $499.00 today. They are awesome guns, so get one if you want it.

My first hand gun, after a 25 year absence from shooting, was a 92FS. My wife even chipped in half as my birthday present last year. It's a nice gun, and if you want one, now is the best time to get one. As you've seen, the prices have come down dramatically (I paid $600 for mine). If you wait too long, you may see prices creep back up as new one's become more scarce. Then again, I've never been very good at predicting prices.

BTW, the 92FS isn't "discontinued" so much as it got "renamed" the M9... it's the military designation for the 92FS. That's what Beretta is selling it as now. Oh, BTW, it was my first handgun too. It's damn accurate. You'll be pleased with it when you get it.

The only difference between the US and Italy versions, is the text stamped on the slide. NO the Italian model is not better, the US plant is actually more advanced, and larger. Most Italian models are older however, all metal, the new models have plastic triggers, recoil guides, and saftey levers.

I like the 92fs, but because the Ninety-Two is its replacement I am inclined to go with the newer gun.

Well, for those who want the newer Ninety-Two, I say go for it. A fine handgun. I've shot one a number of times. Very nice. But, for my personal wants, needs, and aesthetic tastes, (it's neither my carry nor my only 9mm by the way), I'll keep my 92FS.

As for the American-made versus Italian-made issue, the reason I prefer the Italian is strictly emotional, as I'm an American of Italian descent. Silly? Sure, but that's my silliness. :D

Oh, and thanks for the compliments on the photo. It is one of this amateur's faves.
Just got in some hex screws and a new (used, actually) Kramer MSP and new photos are in the works.

Come on, they're not really discontinuing the 92FS. That has to be an internet rumor. Can anybody actually show some evidence?

I highly doubt they discontinued their bread-and-butter gun, and retired the machinery that's earned its initial investment out about twenty years ago.
