I spoke with some LGS in the last 1or2 months looking for a S&W Sigma. Most of them said they could not order it. Even from S&W. I was able to find one at a LGS while checking & grabbed it. The envelope with the case in it was Stamped 5/13 . So the gun was just made &shipped! What's the deal? Can we still get the SWOCK (Sigma) or NOT? If anyone knows, please let us know?

No but you may still find new in box Sigmas. My LGS has had one for years....

LNK

Never could understand why anybody would buy a Stigma, when a sharp stick to stick yourself in the eye with is so much cheaper and more reliable.

I've heard Sigma's had awful triggers.....true? Did they ever correct that? I had a S&W Model 59 that I sold because I couldn't stand the trigger.

The new 'SD' line is the same gun.

They are so much the same gun, you can take the slides off of both a Sigma and an SD9 and interchange them. The rest of the parts are probably interchangeable as well.

'SD' = jazzed up Sigma.

We sell the "new" version at the shop, great seller because of the price but the trigger has to be one of the worst abominations ever foisted upon the public by a firearms company.

Absolutely atrocious!

Thanks! A closer look revealed it is a S.D.! The tag on the box said SIGMA. Looked at it in box &it looked like a SIGMA! That's ok the S.D. seems to be a close copy. Some may not care for them but that is why they make all those different models! I will take a SIGMA over a sharp stick any day! But that's just my opinion. Thanks for the information! We all can learn something new everyday!

My son has one (SD) in .40 and it is very reliable. The trigger is heavy to be sure. He replaced the springs with a set from Apex, and it helped a little, but the trigger is still heavy. Smooth, but heavy.

As a long time gun owner I agree that the Sigma & S.D. have heavy rough triggers . It is also well known that S&W will work on it, if you ask. I own a couple of Glocks and do agree that they have better triggers. But having learned to shoot on wheel guns ( some with awful triggers !). I find the triggers ok. I have shot bad triggers on alot of the old favorites! As I can have them fixed. I believe I can live with that small issue. At $200 cheaper than a Glock I believe S&W will sell a boat load of the new S.D.s.! Hope they make them in .357sig.& .45acp. sometime soon! And just maybe they will fix that trigger!

The Sigma is still alive and well as the SD line. I bought my soon to be FIL a SD40VE as a gift. Same horrible trigger. He didn't have anything at the time. He loved it. He has also has a 1911 he got for Fathers Day this year. He much prefers the 1911.

I know Smith paid (pays) a "royalty" to Glock for each Sigma they sold. Not sure if going to the SD line got around that issue.

Kinda. As stated the original Sigma line was improved in their SDVE line. They listened to the loudest customer complaints about the regular Sigmas, namely the bad triggers to improve them in the new line.

Those of us who love revolvers fire the Sigma, shrug, and grunt "Could be better". If you <edited> can't handle the Sigma trigger I suggest you invest a little time strengthening those rose-petal-soft hands of yours.

A friend of the family bought a pair of them for cheap. I took them to the range to wear them in and do the familiarization routine. They worked fine with a couple of different kinds of ammo. The triggers weren't great but nowhere near as bad as a Jennings or a Nagant revolver. Try some of the old commie surplus pistols in double action and then come back and whine about the Sigma, I dare you.

If those are improved triggers I shudder to think about what the original triggers must have been like.
Well, when you posted your first comment in this thread, my first thought was, "certainly this guy has never handled the original Sigma."

As a long time shooter & gun owner, I thank that it depends on personal experience. I have yet to own a Taurus simi-auto pistol that worked %100! The last 3 had terrible triggers & went click, click, bang, click, click! I willnot buy a Taurus auto ever again! Yet some swear by them, while others swear at them! I certainly would not put the Sigma or S.D. in the same category as Lorcan or a stick! The problems mentioned here besides the trigger don't appear to be wide spread or we would have seen numerous threads about it similar to the one's we have seen about Taurus. If I had that much trouble out of a S&W pistol, I would have returned it! S&W has a great customer relations department. Taurus not so good! But all that aside, you pay for what you get! S&W.s have always worked well for me. I think I will be happy with my S.D. & will keep it! Have fun shooting whatever you pick! :)

I had mine for 2.5 years. It was a great first handgun for a guy on a tight budget. Went bang every time, wasn't too small that it was difficult to shoot. Wasn't too large to conceal.

The trigger sucked, but it was $300 new. I just traded it towards my new shotgun earlier this week. I bought a 1911 for carry last year, and the trigger has spoiled me so much the Sigma never got shot anymore. But I'd buy another if I was broke and needed a handgun.

And I hear the same reliability carried over to the SD line.

I bought a Sigma 9ve about 4 years ago at a gun show. $300 with a coupon for a $50 dollar rebate and two extra magazines. I found the trigger to be heavy but very smooth and controllable(I learned to shoot with a double action revolver). Accuracy is very good and I would not have any problem carrying it as a ccw gun. My nephew has one in .40 and I know several other people who have Sigma's and enjoy them. I think that the early problems have been vastly over reported as I never spoke to a Sigma owner who could not wait to get rid of it.

Thats funny! The store I traded mine at was a little hesitant, because mine had 10 round mags. When my FFL ordered it, he accidentally ordered the CA compliant one, and I was so excited about my first handgun I didn't care. I figured I'd buy more mags, anyway. ThAt us, untill I discovered how much mags cost...
