It seems like your face is right over the chamber area. Does that make shooting a bullpup uncomfortable?

I have heard reports that over extended shooting sessions the noise from the shots causes headaches as the chamber is closer to your ears.

Course there is also the problem of lefties shooting right hand ejecting bulpups ( which most were till recently ) in which case you would be pelted in the ear by a high speed hot piece of brass, which I suspect would get quite uncomfortable quite quickly...

I find bullpups to be very comfortable. I'm especially fond of the ergonomics of the FS2000 and PS90.

shooting them is ok, its mag changes that bother me with them.

Shooting my STG-556 (MSAR's earlier AUG Clone), the only thing that is any where near uncomfortable about it is that when my hair gets shaggy I can actually feel the shell casings brushing against it.

Other than that, I've got no complains about it.

I don't find it uncomfortable to shoot a bullpup AK other than the trigger pull being mushy. Honestly with good hearing protection I couldn't really tell that there was that much sound difference given that it is essentially an identical rifle with the bullpup stock kit on it. Barrel length is the same, receiver and all, even had same flash hider. Recoil felt "different" not any more or less it just felt different due to a completely different way the rifle balanced.

As for left handed shooting i'd look at one of the foward or downward ejecting bullpups. A bullpup AK would be quiet uncomfortable to shoot lefty when the bolt handle knocked your teeth out as it traveled rearward

I can't speak for other bullpups, never have fired any of them.

My MSAR is not uncomfortable to shoot except with a can it dumps more gas in one's face than an suppressed AR.

I'm uncomfortable with the fact that most bullpups force me to shoot with my non-dominant eye. Or in general don't leave the option of shooting with both sides (as I do with all other rifles).

As a lefty, I dislike them. Ergonmically, I didn't find them any better or worse than a standard rifle. My only experience with bullpup are the Steyr AUG and the Walther G22.

Steyr was okay, but the walther was a total POC.

I know a lot of models are being offered in true Ambi, like the RFB, or lefty models. The mag change never feels right, IMO.

I had a bushmaster bullpup, it really wasn't comfortable for me. And the trigger pull was terrible, it had a convoluted link that bent all around the magazine well to get to the sear.

I got rid of it. I prefer the ergonomics of a conventional barrel arrangement.

I really wish one of the rental ranges near me would get some bull pup rifles in the rotation so I could try out a different one.

@WEG That pic of your bullpup AK did remind me of a couple things that could possibly be uncomfortable. Mine had a slight issue with the trigger being against the barrel and getting hot but that was easy fix and I documented it here https://sites.google.com/site/bullpuphottriggerfix/

The next thing was that if the rifle used for this kit had a bayonet lug it stuck down into one of the vent slots in the front portion of the plastic. If you have ever touched the bayonet lug on an AK after firing a couple mags you will find a whole new meaning to the word uncomfortable. Essentially 2 choices, grind it off, or don't hold it there.

My solution was to leave the lug in place and put a short clamp on rail on there and a foregrip

It took about 5 minutes to get used to the feel of both hands being on vertical grips that close but it works for me.

My FS2000 and PS90 are two of the most comfortable rifles I own to shoot. Of course they are designed a bit different than your typical bull-pup because one ejects out the bottom and the other out the front. The only really uncomfortable aspect of almost any bull-pup rifle is the crappy trigger, if you can deal with that then they are extremely fun and ergonomic.

I have an MSAR and love it! No discomfort at all, and never noticed a headache develop from shooting it. Of course, I have never shot it without hearing protection. That, and I am completely deaf in my right ear. :)

They take a little getting used to but really aren't uncomfortable. I think reloading is easier with a "conventional" rifle.
