Is SIG P226 too large to conceal carry?

Proper clothes, IWB holsters, can hide just about any pistol. Will it be comfortable? Eveyone is different on that aspect. A good stiff belt, a good holster with wide spread loops, will help in comfort.

Some people will tell you a real gunbelt and IWB will work. I can't imagine that working unless I never ever sat down.

I would carry it OWB and concealed. Requires an additional piece of clothing but who cares?

Yes, depending on your size.

Why would you not consider a compact?

Jim

jim243, I'm big enough you could probably hide a full sized shotgun on me! lol As for compact's....my dad bought a Beretta Px4 Storm and was very dissatisfied with it, and I like full sized pistols.

It can certainly be done. That said, there are a whole lot of guns that are easier to conceal and carry and yet still large enough to shoot well.

If it were me I use a Raven concealment holster. They are thin and high quality. I also like that they are modular. They can be used as an IWB or OWB depending on needs/desires.

Can it be done? Sure. I've CC'd a full size Witness 10mm before and that's a heavy block of a handgun.

Would it be the easiest? Nope, but a GOOD gunbelt (I like "The Beltman" belts) as a base for your platform combined with something like a crossbreed holster and a little experimentation on the positioning will make it work.

Pretty sure you'd be using a cover garment though, I can't imagine trying it with a tucked in dress shirt or anything like that.

I second the beltman belt and crossbreed supertuck. I carry my p225 with that rig comfortably, not as big as your 226 but I cant imagine it being too much of a difference.

With all full size it is possible, but maybe not comfortable of all day. My friend loves his P226 and he swears that it's not a problem for him carrying that with IWB all day, but for me I would rather carry a subcompact and go for comfort. So if you aboslutely love your full size pistol or have no other choice then do it, but after you try something smaller it might give a different perspective. Of course if it's not IWB with belt holster, then absolutely ok.

I carry both large and small guns. Comfort is a concern, as is the ability to conceal, but there is no question, should I ever really NEED a gun for defense, I would probably find myself much more COMFORTED by a full size, adequately powerful gun in my hand. It is generally harder to shoot smaller guns as effectively as full sized ones, and that does make a difference in a gunfight.

I typically cc a 220 or a 226. I wear a 5.11 rigger belt and use a Galco Royal Guard holster. Its a little bulky, but manageable. I tried using a kydex iwb because it was less bulky, but it was also less comfortable. I find the leather makes it more comfortable to carry. It doesnt print a whole lot, even when sitting down.

For a belt, I run an Ares Ranger, it is hands down the best belt I have used. The best feature is it infinately adjustable within its range:)

Serpa holsters do stick way out.... I like Kydex, but prefer Ntac, Comptac, Raven style holsters.

I carried a P225 a few times. It certainly can be done but as fine weapons as SIG makes, they aren't usually as compact as some other models. Eventually, it just didn't make sense to me to carry it when I could do well, and much more comfortably, with other options.

I'm sure you could conceal a P226, but the real question is : will you? For some folks, this answer is "sure, I don't mind carrying full sized pistols, and P226's aren't too heavy". For me, well I'm kind of lazy when it comes to carrying. Most of my carrying is open carrying while walking around the hunting property, and for that purpose, I usually carry my p226, USP, G19 or SP2022.... none of those guns are terribly light, but with a good comp-tac, serpa or Talon tactical OWB they are plenty comfortable.

Concealed carry is a whole different animal for me, even a G19 feels like a brick in my pants in an IWB.... the only gun that ever actually gets concealed by me is my LCP, because I can toss it in a pocket holster and forget about it. So I'd say, if you will actually carry it, and make the necessary wardrobe concessions, a P226 can definitely be concealed.

Ive carried full size 1911's, SIG, Glocks, etc, IWB, all my life and never had any troubles doing so. Im not all that big eeither, 5'6", 170#, 33" waist.

You dont even have to go out of your way in your choice of dress either, just be reasonable in what you choose, and you wont have any troubles.

I find IWB at around 4:30 to be the most comfortable and concealable, and with any gun, not just the full sized guns. You do need to give IWB are reasonable amount of time so your body can get used to it. I dont up size my pants either. My normal size quickly "give", and help in holding the gun in place. When you go up in size, youre clothes dont fit without the gun being their, and even when it is, look like they dont fit right anyway. They just dont make the waist bigger, everything is bigger.

P226's are really not a "big" gun, and in the same range as a Colt Commander.

I'm sure you could conceal a P226, but the real question is : will you?
Good point. Most of the complaints are "cant", when in reality, they are "I wont, or dont want to". Its not that you cant, its just some arent willing to carry something that they easily can, but choose to do otherwise.

I choose to carry what I shoot the best with, and offers the highest round count. I dont choose to compromise that for dress or comfort. Not that comfort is an issue for me, I find the big guns just as comfortable as the little ones, and often carry both at the same time, as well as a reload for the full size.

Exactly my point, if you will actually carry a larger pistol, then obviously it will be a better option should you ever need to use it. I just know that I won't carry a larger pistol regularly, so I keep the LCP around. I don't shoot it as well as my larger pistols, but I can easily pull off COM shots at 25 feet, and for me, that's good enough. But then again, I'm admittedly a proponent of compromises. If you're into carrying bigger pistols, then I really think a P226 would be an excellent choice.

I would prefer to carry the P238. Small and very low recoil. Very good shooting gun.

During summers: yes for sure.

During winters: depends on how tou dress, but generally speaking its concealable
