Is the new Cabot Gun 'Southpaw' more expensive than a custom piece from a gunsmith?

I'm a lefty. Obvious, I guess. While I realize that the Southpaw is a performance piece, suitable for competition and those with deep pockets, the price of this and other lh 1911s (Randall, etc.) begs the question: could a gunsmith offer a lower quote? Could it be cheaper to mod an existing 1911 (the Colt Commander would be my preference)? If little more than the slide and position of the mag/slide releases are involved, wouldn't it be cheaper than shelling out $5000+ (not to mention aftermarket mods)? The rarity of this and other production line lh's might also add to the headache.

Other advantages include possibility of an lh 1911 with the option of high capacity mags.

Any thoughts? Forum was very helpful the last time, even if I was a bit of a pain.

I am pretty sure the answer is no.
A true lefthanded pistol as a conversion would be very expensive.
The current American Handgunner features the left-right pair of guns by Joel Chambers.
He put a LOT of work into them, more in the left than the right, and he had the advantage of working with Caspian's LAST lefthanded slide.

What is your objective? You can get ambidextrous safeties and magazine catches, and a good smith can tune the extractor to not throw empties at you. As to the slide stop, Jeff Cooper said he would order the Korriphila (expensive German with everything to order) with an off-side slide stop lever to be out of his way.

Guess it was a longshot. Just tired of living in righty's world, that's all. Would like to have the same advantages and comfort as the average right handed person. Left handed implements are always more expensive, but at 9 percent of the population, we're a specialty crowd. Don't get me wrong, I adapt just fine, but it would be nice to have something feel like it was made for me. Suppose that kind of personalization is supposed to be expensive. Makes it worth the sacrifice. Thanks for the help.
