ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (Reuters) - September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui said on Thursday he had no regrets for those who died in the hijacked plane attacks and told jurors in his death penalty trial he wished "there would be more pain." In comments that brought at least one relative of a victim to tears, Moussaoui mocked survivors of the attacks who had told the court of their pain and said he would like to see similar attacks against Americans every day.


The president of Iran again lashed out at Israel on Friday and said it was "heading toward annihilation," just days after Tehran raised fears about its nuclear activities by saying it successfully enriched uranium for the first time.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Israel a "permanent threat" to the Middle East that will "soon" be liberated. He also appeared to again question whether the Holocaust really happened.

"Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation," Ahmadinejad said at the opening of a conference in support of the Palestinians. "The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm."

Some people would have you believe these men are mentally unbalanced, but I believe their views are shared by a huge number of Muslims.

It's ironic! The Japanese government warned of war, if their petrolem supply was threatened, and the USA cut it off. Long time ago.

Then, a young aspiring Adolf Hitler authored a book, "Mein Kampf," detailing what he would do if he came to power, and the world, and USA ignored him for the most part.

Now, to the XXI'st Century. Here is a head of state of a large, powerful, and influential Moslem nation declaring just what he intends to do, and, well, you see the point.

Didn't that man, Osama bin Laden, make public statements about his intentions years ago, and ...

I do not hate anyone because of their religious views.

I'm also NOT trying (although it sure looks like it, doesn't it?) to foment hatred against ANYONE of ANY faith who sincerely wants peace.

You confuse me. The Holocasust was an attack on a religious group. The NAZI's were not especially religious, so far as I'm aware, although some have identified them with both Paganism and Christianity.

When every Imam publicly rebukes the extremists and issues edicts (fatwas or whatever they are are called) to isolate the extremists and places a bounty on their heads I'll agree we aren't at war with Islam. Until then we are sure as hell at war with significant, dangerous, and capable portions of Islam.

We're not at war with Islam. We are at war with a specific breed of terrorist that practices a RADICAL form of Islam. Of course you can quote violent passages out of the Koran but that doesn't mean anything. There are a large number of violent extremists but most people believe the peaceful ones are in the majority.

We are at war with enemies who mean to do us harm. The fact that they are Islamic makes no difference.

When splitting hairs between Muslim "extremists," "moderates," and "liberals" keep in mind the nature of the fatwa.

Just about any Muslim with a following can issue a fatwa. It's supposed to be an official declaration of doctrine, but the Ummah is far too fractured for this to be the case. Essentially, the fatwa has become a way for Muslim leaders to tell other Muslims that something they're saying is based in scripture instead of personal opinion.

The various bombings, kidnappings, beheadings, and other acts of terror have all raised widespread condemnation from Muslim "moderates" and "liberals."

But where were the fatwas from "liberal" Imams when Daniel Perl had his head removed?

But where were the fatwas from "liberal" Imams when London was bombed?

But where were the fatwas from "liberal" Imams when three Christian school girls were decapitated in Indonesia?

The "liberal" and "moderate" Imams may personally dislike terror tactics, but they give their religious assent by refusing to oppose them on scriptural grounds. And they know it.

That's why it is so important for TSA to do detailed searches of grey-haired grandmothers - we don't know who our enemies are, and certainly aren't allowed to guess who they might be, so everyone has to be treated as a potential enemy.

You know, Mad Ogre (our own George Hill) pointed out recently that he thinks his brother has become a Muslim. I don't know if that's Shin Tao or one of the two brothers who recently returned from Iraq, but I think it's going to be interesting, if this Iraq/Afghanistan thing goes on as long as it promises to do, how all the folks who currently hate Muslims and love the troops are going to deal with all the Muslim troops returning from those lands.
