Just wondering if there is a quality DA/SA semi-auto pistol that is both single stack and having a thin [inch or less] width? If so, please post here [with pics/links if possible].

Thank you!

*update* I'm asking about 9mm only.

If you don't mind used, S&W 3913s are well respected pistols. Here's mine, and the second photo is a comparison shot with a Cougar, both in 9mm.

So sorry for the unnecessary confusion. 9mm is what I'm after. Thank you.

Kahr cm9/pm9, cw9, k9, km9 ....etc.

Edit:

Oops, you said DA/SA, my bad forget what I said...

If you don't mind hunting around a little, there is a Beretta 92 Compact Type M, which is the skinniest single-stack pistol that I've ever held. They're pretty hard to find, but they do come up once in a while on The Beretta Forum, where they have a cult following.

An RAP 401 or Astra A75 would make a fine single-stack fitting your description.

A Sig 225/P6 (later model) would also make excellent picks.

Thanks, wb.

Auto426, how wide is the Sig 239?

The P239 is not the thinnest single stack but it's not the thickest either. IMO its a nice compromise of weight and width but a little big for CC, considering all the options available today. I carried one for years then finally gave in to a smaller, lighter gun. They are definitely worth a look... The recommendation of a 3rd generation S&W is another good one. When it comes to all steel single stacks with a decocker, the 3rd generations are tough to beat.

+1 to Sig P239 or S&W 3rd gens like the 3913, those are the best DA/SA single stacks out there IMHO.

I presume that you have a reason for going SA/DA, and that you have demonstrated to your satisfaction that the different trigger pull on the second and subsequnt shots will not prove problematical.

My S&W Model 39 was acceptable but by no means great. I went out some weeks ago to look at different carry firearms, and I found the DA pulls on the SIG and the Springfield armory XD were not to my liking.

Ended up with a Ruger SR9c--9MM, double column but quite easy to carry, manual safety, same pull on each shot.

An RAP 401 or Astra A75 would make a fine single-stack fitting your description.
Just make sure you keep the springs (recoil and mag) fresh to keep them reliable (owned a RAP 401 and 440 and they lost some reliability after 500-1000 rounds but a new recoil spring would make them run fine).
According to Sig's website the 239 is 1.2" wide.
You could find a lot of double stack guns that wide (the CZ-RAMI is pretty much the same dimensions as the 239 but packs two more rounds).

So why DA/SA? If you want to go striker fired or DAO you can probably find a lot more slim, single stack 9mms to choose from. For example if you want slim and can live with a striker fired gun the Walther PPS is pretty doggone slim.

I don't like the pull of DAO pistols. The DA/SA is for added carry safety. Yes, a long first pull, unless you have enough time to pull the hammer back, but then SA after that.

As for striker fire pistols, I just don't like the idea of a firing pin under spring tension while carried [though I know it won't fail and fire on its own]. I have had SAO pistols that are cocked and locked, but that adds the extra step of remembering to swipe the safety off [and yes, training should be a factor with it or any weapon].

Mostly, it was out of curiosity I asked the question. I'm kinda waiting out the XDs in 9mm. At least it has the grip safety added into the mix without having to remember to "take it off".

Yeah, I'm not wanting to get very big. Trying to go with the smallest [within reason] I can find. The thinner the better.

Try a S&W CS9. It's the smallest of the 3rd generation smiths, 7 rounds and super slim, especially if you go over to the S&W forums and find the guy that makes custom slim grips out of 3913 grips.

SIG P239 was my first SIG, I ended up with seven other SIGs over the years. Had some S&W single stack pistols like my very first pistol a S&W model 39-2, and a 3913. In my opinion and shooting experience the SIG P239 beats the S&W pistols in everything but looks.
