This looks like a hair line crack to me. I don't know for sure if it is though. I suppose it could possibly be just a wrinkle in the finish. I don't know. What say y'all? I'm working with the seller right now trying to get my money back.

I thought I attached one. It's amazing what you do Eden your half asleep.

I assume that the adapter is molded plastic; it could just as easily be a mold defect that the casting material faithfully replicated.

Assuming that it's plastic, I'd be tempted to take off a bit of the unevenness around this area and see if the 'crack' was a surface anomaly from the mold of if it went into the material itself.

No it's made of aluminum

that's a crack... and its location makes it a deal killer.

Indeed it does. Upon further inspection it goes all the way through on that side. The good news is I contacted Mesa Tactical and they said they don't care where I bought it that they offer a lifetime warranty on their products. They gave me an RMA # and I'm sending it back and they are sending me a new one. How's that for customer service?

There's an easy way to tell if it's a surface imperfection or a crack. Take a can of compressed air spray, turn it upside down so the liquid propellant discharges, and give the area a couple of quick blasts. A distinct frost line will appear if it is a crack.

You can also use Tech-Freeze spray or refrigerant but most people don't have those sitting around. It's too late to help you but this might help someone in the future.

It was definitely a crack. After further inspection it was found that the crack tab all the way from the front of the adapter on that side to the bottom of the adapter.
