Is this a scope, rifle, mount, or weather problem?

I have a Bashmaster AK Shorty that I mounted a Millet Buck Lightening scope on today. The mount/base is one of those see through handle mount types, and lock up seems tight. The rings are tight. The rifle, with iron sights, shoots fine.
But upon sighting in, I could not get a group to settle in to save my sorry butt. A couple of concerns:

1. It's DAMNED cold here. About 12 degrees at 4:00 PM. Sitting perfectly still at a bench was a challenge, to put it lightly. I could barely feel the trigger, and it pulled like a lever. I have no idea how AR's behave in the cold.

2. I have never sighted in a rifle like this, with a mount like this. Are they reliable? (the mount, that is)

3. I noticed that the illuminated recticle stopped functioning. This is my second scope from Millet with that problem, this being a replacement for the first. Are there other problems with Millets as well, that I'm not aware of?

Please discuss, evaluate, and advise.
