Purchased Berrys plated 45 LC (.452) 250 gr flat point. Is it normal that I can push the bullet into the case by hand ? Using new Starline brass.

Depends how strong you are. Should take about 35 pounds pressure or more to move the bullet. Check the expander diameter, it should be about .450" Check bullet diameter also. Dont over crimp. Do size the new Starline brass first before loading.

It sounds like you are flaring the case too much. It would not hurt to measure a few to make sure that they really are .452 but my guess is you need to back your flare off a bit.

Along with the possibility of excessive case flaring, you may need to size your new starline brass. If you have already primed all of your brass without sizing, you can remove your decapping pin to keep the primers in the case.

FWIW, this from Starline's FAQ page:

Does one need to full-length size brass prior to loading?

Generally speaking, Starline cases require no resizing prior to loading. Due to variances in diameter of different bullet types, it is a good practice to size the case only as far down as the bullet seating depth. When full length sizing is required, it will be noted in the box with the brass. The only Starline cases requiring full length sizing prior to loading are the .454 Casull, .458 SOCOM, and sometimes the .45 Colt(Depending on the bullet diameter to be used).

I have NEVER resized the brand new Starline .45 Colt brass I bought. Simply not necessary. Check the relationship between your bullet diameter and the interior diameter of your brass with your calipers.

Yup, that's what I needed to do. Just ran them all through the die and and all is fine. Thanks for all the replies and advice

If this is happening only after flaring I think your flaring tool may be out of tolerance?

+1 to that!!!

Especially if you are using Lee dies.

The expander in every set I have was too big & rough.
And over-expanded the case.

Take the stem out of the die and measure it.

If is is larger then .449" - .450", it is too big and over-expanding the cases.

Chuck it in a drill and work it down with emery cloth to .449", then polish it with finer grits and try that.

45 colt brass is made to fit .454" bullets. if you want to run .452" bullets ya gotta size em first. i had the same thing with new win cases.

i don't think that is necessary with any other cartridge.
