Is WW-231 gone for good?

Cabelas wasn't the cheapest by far, but they had the 8#ers, limit 5. My buddy has the Rewards card and shipping was only $5, Hazmat $20, -- even then the 8#s were $175 after adding the $5 per jug. But, that's better than some of the other places that limit to 1 or 2 per order.

^^^^Clerk at the local gun shop. I'll admit it was the first time I've heard of it.
Well, that's always the first place I go for reliable gun or reloading information! :scrutiny:

Another gun store clerk upholding the long standing proud tradition of ill-informed gun store clerks.

If Hodgdon makes any changes to the Winchester branded stuff, I could actually see them getting rid of the Winchester rifle powders (branding them as Hodgdon or IMR), and having only pistol powders with a Win logo. Then switching all IMR pistol powders to another brand, which they've done to a few already.

I'm surprised a 2005 join date hasn't learned that repeating gun store/counter myth isn't the best way to go.

Hey did you know that Glock is releasing a Carbine this year, that a Judge is the best defensive gun you can get because it's a hand held shotgun, and that if you shoot and kill somebody on your doorstep you should drag the body inside and tell the police you shot him there?

You know that you just started 3 internet rumors that will be spouted by some folks as indisputable gospel by the close of business next Tuesday. ;)

Just came back from Calebas, they had both 231 and hp38 probably 30 -40 jars combined. 231 was 25 bucks hp38 was 21, I bought hp38.

There is really no reason to pack it under separate labels. That's an extra manufacturing cost

I wouldnt think it would be much of an extra manufacturing cost.

**I see now, AACD already mentioned this..

Ha, now I see Mad Chemist's reply, I should read the whole thread before I go to typing I guess... Still, I dont see much added cost.

Also, people do charge more for a name. I see it all the time in my line of work, which I admit is a little different than retail items.

Oh yea, should mention that I got 3 lbs a couple weeks ago online. Regular price.

Just a quick interweb search turned up the first rumor of W-231 being discontinued was in August 2010. (Maybe earlier, but I didn't keep looking.)

That's 4 1/2 years ago friends!

Hasn't happened yet, and I don't see it happening in the future.

For Win 231 reloaders everywhere, Whew!

I was 2 minutes Cabelas yesterday and thought about stopping in. But weekends are usually a.terrible time to look for powder up there. Guess I'll see if they have any HP-38 left when I get off work.

this should make some of you feel better..

A small shop that I visit on occasion had a couple of 8# containers of 231 for sale, in their small powder cabinet.. I was going to pick one up, 'till I saw the price...$299.00 :what: I kid you not..:fire: it's been a few weeks, they might still be there :)

Not only would I have passed, I would have made an ugly face, too.

At the local gun show last weekend, one vendor had 8# jug of 231 for $205. If I really needed it, I would have bought it, but I still think that is high.

rrrrrrrrrr I check Recobs (not often enough I guess)missed it. rats:cuss:
Good score though.

Sure would like 8lbs...HP38 or WW231 of that powder no matter what they want to call it. Love it in .45 ACP

HHHHmmm maybe a label like "For advanced reloaders only on the jar" :D:evil:
(Jokeing of course, so there might be some left for me.)

Wonder how long they had it in stock? 10 minutes?

IMO there is no better powder for loading the 45 ACP or .38 Special than W231/HP-38. If it was ever going to be discontinued I would put 32lbs or so in stock. HS-6 is another powder i would not want to be without.

Got some today. Limit was one pound apiece so my coworkers and I each bought a pound at $25. Price seems high but then again, this is the first pound of this stuff in a couple of years.

Yes Im sad to say it is gone for good. Might as well just stop looking for it. (especially if you're in my area:))

my lgs just got in a bunch of hp38, 231, titegroup and the whole line of clays powders... its coming back!

Why, pray tell, are 231 and 38 sold at different prices?

Same reason as cow manure and "organic fertilizer" I take it?
