Is your dog gun shy?

Never had a gun-shy dog, but my current dog hates fireworks and, for some reason, the cap pistol. He gets excited if he sees a gun. That means hunting to him, but he doesn't like the cap pistol. Also, if I leave a gun out and propped up in the corner, he will go over and lick it.

When I had beagles, they were indifferent to the gun. They were pretty much always in hunting mode, whether or not "boss" had a gun at the time. They were great dogs. Not too bright, though.

English setters are the best! I've had two, and they've both been "gun nuts."

PressCheck that's one very handsome boy you got.

My pup has nerves of steel, it comes with the solid working dog bloodlines, she doesn't mind gunfire, and wants to kill the agitation stick. She's just a baby now, 8 months.

Dog, a terrier something mixed, will run and hide at the sight of any type of gun (or what looks like a gun).

Cat, a tabby something mixed, will run from the bb gun but doesn't care less about any of the others. Will start if you fire a gun around it but won't run off or hide.

Dog is from the pound and was abused, cat is just weird.

Hmm, I kinda skimmed through the pages pretty quick. Anyways, this is kinda of a stupid question......

Everyone is concerned about hearing loss.... So what about the dogs? I've never hunted with dogs and neither have the people that I know......

Dogs can & will lose their hearing from the sound of gun fire. I have heard that you should train your dog to stand on your left side (as long as you're right handed that is) so the dog won't get as much of the noise.
