Is Your Range Bag A Mess???

Actually, I am very happy to say that I keep mine clean. I keep it stocked with eyes/ears, targets and hand cleaner. All I have to do is insert guns and ammo and I am ready to roll. I will admit that I find the occassional spent brass, but other than that, its clean and organized.

My range bag is small so I fill it when I need it. It currently only has 2 pairs of cheapie plugs just in case, a pen, and some tape. I emptied all the brass and such from the last trip as soon as I got back home. :p

My range bag is halfway between total chaos and controlled chaos (kind of like the rest of my life, but that's a different tale).

Last week, I noticed it was getting way too dang heavy. So I rummaged through and took out a couple of items, tidying the rest as I went along.

Next day, I was at the range and really needed two of the items I'd removed.

I put them back in, and took out two other things I hadn't used in months.

Two days later, I was at the range and really needed one of the items I'd just removed.

There's a reason my bag's got a lotta stuff in it...

I have a wife and two kids are you kidding! I am going to have to talk to the military about moving large amounts of ammo and other stuff, just to go shooting it takes three ammo bags two ears and such bags, guns (must have guns to go shooting:D ) target supplies bag.......

I have a pistol box strictly for bullseye shooting, and that stays pretty neat. My range bag, on the other hand, tends to go from neatly organized to levels of chaos that would cause Cthulu to cringe. This is because at any given time my range bag may be pulling duty holding all my stuff for a rifle match one day, or holding various random calibers and magazines for an informal plinking session the next. You just never know...

I'm glad to see Tejon carrying stuff to stop accidental leaks too. I thought I was the only one. I carry ABD pads, lap sponges, and a couple of tampons in addition to my first aid kit in mine.

Right now I need to wash my secondary range bag; the cat seems to have made a bed in it. At least the only thing I have in there are a brick of .22's and the Incubus' hearing protection (these smell funny and they're sticky, Rabbit...)

My primary bag is usually cleaned out and repacked after each 'good' trip to the range. Currently it has nothing but ready-to-go ammo (currently .308, 9mm and 357sig), my muffs and shooting glasses, the big stapler, the first aid kit, compact binoculars, pad and pencil, screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, and a couple of dollars in change for the drink machine.

Regards,
Rabbit.

Roller case for the pieces themselves;

bag with eyes, ears, 10 .1911 mags, 8 17-rd Beretta mags, 4 Megastar mags, 4 1903 mags, 6 1006 mags, Bersa mag, ammo ammo ammo...

Cleaning kit stays at home except for out of town trips.

I use an old JanSport backpack as a range bag. Very innocent looking carrier, doesn't scream gun. Mine is a mess after about 2-3 trips, empty ammo boxes lots of brass I'll never reload, old targets, ear plugs and such. But I'm a pig so it doesn't bother me too much.

I suggest all you range bag slobs watch "Full Metal Jacket". Then, stand in front of the mirror and verbally abuse yourself a little by using some of the drill sargant's lines. That should motivate to put your range bag in order, jump up, and salute yourself, again in front of the mirror.:D

Serously...it's an eternal struggle for me. Just keep running out of space and thats only with two guns max that I take to the range.

I have one offical "range bag" my 10X for shotgun sports I won with matching shell pouch back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
I have not used it in a while, okay lets just say the new unfired Winchester boxes of AA target loads have changed boxes. Neat and orderly.

I cheat, I use the stuff at the private place I use...don't ask what is strewn in my truck tool box. One gets a funny look from a date when shells, condoms, kotex, hulls, cleaning kits, 'surgical tape, ABD pads, Hoppe's No. 9 ,blankets, ...etc. , is noticed on a first date. I was putting her casual clothes in their for later. Betcha never had a date in little black dress and heels climb into truck bed to dig through your tool box. Who says I don't know how to entertain a lady. :p

"I just thought medicine cabinets revealed stuff about folks" she said. I got even and inspected her car trunk - hey I was more organized. :p

My Backpack literally fell apart I was using. Replaced with new backpack, and canvas tote with "Tylenol" on the side was stolen...I lost all my stuff.

I last carried stuff to the private range in a large paper grocery bag.

...And then recite "The Rifleman's Creed" after cleaning your guns after range time!:D

I'd personally never get past the part where he asks Pyle if his parents had any children that lived..:p BTW, I grew up with that, it makes me homesick reminiscing whenever I watch FMJ.:uhoh:

I use a rolling toolbox I bought from Home Depot. Top section's a tool box (tools, cleaning kits, spare mags, targets, etc.), middle is a drawer (eyes, ears, gloves, stapler), lower section is a big compartment (shooting bags, spotting scope, spray paint, towel, targets). Only thing I don't put in it is ammo (got ammo boxes for that). At first, people on the range giggled as I rolled on by. So what? Every now and then, I spot other shooters w/ rolling toolboxes as well.

It used to be, that the hassle of loading up stuff, unloading at the range, setting up, taking down, loading back into vehicle, etc, etc, etc, took wore time than shooting. This process became a discouragement to go shoot.

My approach now is, "How much can I leave at home?" Rather than a bag full of stuff, I take 1-2 guns (all I want to clean at one time), ammo, eyes & ears. The fact that the range is attended and has a shop, and I shoot steel there helps reduce the load. I can throw these items into a gym bag and have fun.

Well, my bagmaster bag has definitely become a catchall for everything gun-related. I have more detritus at the bottom of that bag than I would have ever thought possible and am looking to move into a larger iShot bag. Hopefully, the exterior pockets on the bag will allow me to better organize my stuff.

Contents? Everything under the sun, from .40 cases that aren't mine to live .22lr rounds that got there somehow. No medkit as that stays in the truck, but there seems to be one of everything else, including a lot of scrap paper that I can't figure out the origins of.

The best part about being a shooter is having stories like this to share with the world. Maybe I'll go shooting today when I get done with the gym!

VaughnT:

Which bag do you currently have? If you are interested in getting a larger Bagmaster bag, I carry a large selection of Bagmaster bags and discount my range bags.

STRAIGHTSHOT SHOOTING

Good luck on whatever you come up with, and shoot straight.

Right now I have a big tool box that is supposed to take care of everything for me. It is a complete mess I must admit. I am looking to get one of those nice fancy range bags I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

rE:

I'm somewhere in between....choas and controlled chaos. Though I have to admit that right now the bag is clean as I had to move into a new larger bag since the main zipper broke last weekend. No fancy stuff here, plain black leather soft duffel with alot of zipped pockets and large main compartment. The bag kinda follows my attitude and dress code too...unassuming, unlabeled, low key. But looks can be deceiving.....open it up and..........mack
