I have an Ishapore Enfield that I'm modifying to be a knock-around truck rifle. I've replaced the stock with a synthetic, removed the original rear sight and added a Williams aperature sight to the receiver. I originally thought about doing some bedding work on this rifle, but on closer inspection it doesn't look like bedding would be of much benefit due to the design of the rifle.

I plan on slugging the bore and doing some load development to get the most accurate load....on my list of things to do.

Are there any other modifications to the rifle that can be done to improve performance?:)

Get the rifles crown lapped on a lathe. That always helps my rifles shoot better. One went from not grouping (like 10 inch grgoups!!) to a 1-2 MOA shooter....

oddly

mine would not shoot worth a damn in the plastic. Put it back in the original wood and it does fine.

I think the biggest accuracy problem in an ishy is the cavernous chamber. You can reload brass you have shot in the gun but it really gets streched out the first shot. I would not really want to shoot reloads over and over again.

Do you think that if I just neck sized the fired brass it would curtail the streaching issue?

neck sizing is really the only way to go with an Enfield, IMO.

I have a #1 Mk 3 and the fireformed brass isn't too hard to pick out from factory/virgin brass.

My thoughts have been leaning towards breaking the barrel off, rechambering and putting back on, or finding some type of Ackley-type solution.

I have an Ishapore Tanker .308 that I glassbedded(read glued together:eek: I used plenty of release agent but didn't consider mechanical locking:banghead: ) my very first attempt at gunsmithing.Light and fast, takes M14 stripper clips and boy does she shoot.Out to 200 yds she'll keep up with my N.M. M1a before getting shut down.i'll never sell it,but i doubt anyone would buy it.She's head to toe tigerstripe and the only way you'll ever get the action out of the stock is to break it off :p .

http://enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/This is a must bookmark link for anyone with an Enfield.Click on Technical information and it has info on adjusting trigger pull, glassbedding, various accurizing methods employed by the Brits, etc.Really an awesome and informative site.

I've found the Advanced Technology stock to duplicate the free float barrel design of the Ishapore. Check to see if there are only two points of contact with the barrel. Most polymer stock can be ground out if needed. I know the A.T. stock can because it's solid as some SKS owners have found out.

Thanks!

Gentlemen, Thanks for all the suggestions. I did visit the enfield site and found a wealth of information, would suggest it to any enfield owner.
