For me it has been almost a year since I have been to the range. I finally went this Sunday. Here are a couple of things I realized:

- I forgot how hard it is to hit things with a handgun
- I really miss going, all my previous excuses seem weak now
- I need to add going to the range to my monthly to do list (it will be the one chore I look forward)

My former range closed about 2 years ago. I joined another but it was very crowed and over an hour away. The new range does not allow rifle calibers, but it is 15 minutes away, open 7 days a week and the staff was extremely polite and helpful. The wife, aka my shooting buddy is annoyed at me. To quote her, "You have been complaining about finding a range and there has been one all along, only 15 minutes from our house. For now on we go at least once a month and I want to take some shooting classes." Who am I to argue with her. :)

It's been just under a week since I went to the range.
I have a new .41 Magnum Smith revolver, so I'm making plans to go again soon.

Most of the ranges near me are for pistol only. Those that do allow rifles are only 25 yards long, and are mostly for sighting in. All of them make you buy their ammo at their prices, or you can't shoot. They inspect your gear to make sure you're not sneaking in any of your own ammo.

The nearest 100-yard range, where I can shoot what I brought is almost two hours away. It's also the only skeet/trap range around

My fault for moving where I did, though...

Me too Sharpdogs. WAY too long.

And I have no excuses, either.

There are 4 active ranges in a reasonable driving distance:
2 indoor that are open til 10PM or later, one indoor/outdoor open til 9 PM and an outdoor only range with a list of clubs and weekend activities as long as your arm.

I have GOT to re-animate.

Forgive me, but it has been three weeks since I went to the range.

As penance, I humped my rifle five miles up and down the Alpine Lakes Wilderness last weekend, and managed to get one grouse for the trouble.

It has been since last week, going again tonight.

One problem:
It's to do range master duties for my hunter ed class, as was last week.

Shooting for me? It's been about a month. And that was mostly working with the wife and her new rifle. Me, I got to shoot my sp101 for a 50 round refresher. Her? She shot her M77 308, 3-screw single six, her 20 gauge mossy, her 380 mak, her sp101, and my fal. :scrutiny:

I also played target boy and skeet thrower.

Not that I'm upset, her shooting skills are improving rapidly. And she cleans them if she shoots them.:D

Me thinks I better FORCE some range time to tune up for the deer hunt here in a couple weeks.

It's been a couple of days. I spend more time shooting rifles lately than handguns. I'm usually out every weekend.

It's been four days.

I've found that I tend to shoot better when I haven't been to the range in a while, like months. I'm not sure if I get burnt out or just bored. The range I shoot at only alows paper targets, which gets old after a while. There is nothing like shooting with reactive targets. I guess I need to find some exploding paper targets! :)

Short answer: Two months.

Long version:

Interesting that you should ask. Typically, I go to my local indoor range in Raleigh every 2-3 weeks. However, my annual membership lapsed in late July, just about the time that my wife and I experienced a few financial hits that's resulted in our pulling back from hobby and other non-essential expenses.

When I do go back to PDHSC, I can either join annually for $200 and shoot anytime the range is available, paying only for targets ($1 each and you must use their targets) or $30 a year with a $10 fee per shoot (plus the targets). Truth is, part of the reason I've stayed away is that I have to decide whether to keep my shooting to 17 or fewer times a year to avoid the up front $200 expense.

So, it's been two months without punching holes in paper. Getting quite itchy to go, I plan on doing so Saturday.

For a while I'd been going once a week. Recently, it's been more like twice a week. Today's Tuesday - last time at the range was Sunday.. So that's 2 days. I would've gone back yesterday but I'm starting to worry about my lead levels. :)

Since I got a .22 and can afford more ammo than I can shoot, I don't have a reason not to go. Between my cousin (who recently got his CCW), and my girlfriend (who loves to shoot), and training to start competition, I always have some excuse to pack a few pistols up and test my abilities.

Just to make everyone mad- last night although I walked through it on my wqay to go to work. It's also called a back yard- up to 140 yards.

22 hours ago (Monday). I got health insurance, so I figure..range time. The bullets were flying everywhere. Took me 1 hour to figure out the base of my scope mount was wiggling :cuss: . I have a 2 piece mount and apparently the mounting screws just worked themselves lose.

Forgive me, John Moses Browning. It has been more than 4 weeks since my last range trip. Unlike these other sinners, I will make no excuses. This weekend, I plan on doing at least 500 rounds of pennance.
