It's an Italian Vetterli M1870/87/15, . The majority of them were converted around the 1915 time frame to 6.5 Carcano . They have to be reloaded with a reduced load as they cannot handle the pressures of standard Carcano ammo. Over 700,000 were converted from 10.4x47R caliber in the dark days of WW1 for rear troops and as trainers.
I picked it up about two years ago. It had been sitting in a pawn shop looking all alone. :( I hadn't bought a gun in a week or tow and was having withdraws.;)
It was priced at $160 and I got it for $120 out the door.

I don't think that I will ever get around to shooting, but it is a cool old gun.
