Has anyone had any experience with the Ithaca Model 37 Home Defense model? I now have a Mossberg 500, I like the Mossy but was thinking of getting a Model 37.For those of you that have experience with both, would you sell the Mossy and get the Model 37?

Is it the new Defence model or an older model like the Homeland Security? I would say go for it if its one of the latter. I just find the 37 to be the best handling and have the slickest overall operation out of pumpguns.

They do however require a bit more knowledge and care. They also aren't nearly as easy to find accessories for if that's important to you.

Ithaca's aren't as popular as the 500, but they sure are drop dead sexy, in a simplist, Spartan kind of way... remind me of the scatterguns used during prohibition...

Anyway, they function as good as ANY other pump. Period. Ithaca has been around sometime and have always had an excellent reputation.

The model 37 defense, extended magazine with wood stocks is my next pump gun and will serve as the primary HD weapon alongside my Colt 1911.

Accessories are hard to come by... but when you've got such a damn cool gun, why clog it up with junk?!?! They can be had for $500.

Not many people own an Ithaca (compared to the 870 or 500), and that makes them that much more attractive, IMO. Make no mistake, their relative popularity is no sign of how well they're made. They are rock solid American shotguns... with few equals.

May I recommend an older 37? Can be found in pawn shops around me south of $200. Most folks here don't know what they are. If you want to see an old 37 redone as a riot gun, check out bushmaster 1313 on the board here . His '56 37 is super sweet.
