Between the Arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis and carpel I am noticing that racking in the first round on the 1911's is getting harder for me. Anyone else have this problem and is there a relatively simple solution?
My pistol instructor doesn't like the "slingshot" method of manipulating the slide. He says to "stack your thumbs" and push inward with both arms and use your pectoral muscles.
Y'all probably already know this.

But then it isn't a "real" 1911.
Still carry my 1911s and so far without major issues but also find lately my plan B, C, and D get more than their fair share of WalkAbout.
Plans C & D are a Ruger Security 380 Lite Rack and a Walther CCP M2 380. They are all absolutely amazingly accurate, easy to rack, maintain, shoot and shoot lots for practice. Honestly the recoil is like a 22lr pistol.
No plans to give up on my 1911s but may well tend to carry the lighter 380s with modern self defense rounds.
It is easier if you put an empty mag in the gun, then you don't have to do as much hand-gymnastics working the slide release. After the slide is locked back, then pop out the empty mag and insert the full one.Do not put a magazine in the gun. Cock the hammer, do an overhand rack to retract the slide and lock it open with the slide release. Insert a magazine and hit the slide release.
I'm probably at a similar point, but where I'm at now, I get the feeling I'll be able to work the slide longer than I'll be able to pull a DA revolver trigger.I'm not "there" yet regarding cycling a semiauto/1911 slide, but I do own and stay proficient with my revolvers, also, which wouldn't require any slide cycling, of course.
Waiting on a range report.Just got one of the EZs. Going to test run it for carry tomorrow, weather permitting. Preparing for my older years while I'm working. Racks WAY easier than any of my other pistols. I got the PC model with the gold bling trim. Wanted the black, but hey, the gold was on sale for $120 less. Plus the $75 rebate. All done and said, a Performance Center pistol for about $385.
