From time to time the topic of a slide assist come up. Something to help those of us who have arthritus, or small hands, or weak hand strength, to rack the slide on semi-auto pistols. I really haven't had the problem until recently when I got bit by the blowback 380 bug. Old "Uncle Arthur" and some carpel tunnel issues have convinced me I needed something.

Well, I found this...

It's called oddly enough the Pachmayr Slide Rack Assist. Just a hunk of plastic with a ring in it that slips over the muzzle and allows you to get a good grip on the slide. Works like a charm, even with the Tisas, which is a real bear from me. The open top Beretta type slide doesn't give me a lot of places to grab onto anyway, but this really seems to help. They say it doesn't work on CZ pistols for some reason, or on really small guns, but on my Walther PPK/S and an open top Tisas (Beretta 84 clone) it works fine.

I just thought someone else might be interested in it. I got mine off E-bay, but just grabbed this add for the picture.

Another thought, some pistols are easier to rack than others, all else equal.

S&W M&P recoil spring is 16#
Glock 17 recoil spring is 17#
Kahr K9 recoil spring is 20#
Kahr MK9 recoil spring 20.5#

Reduced power recoil springs are no intended to make "racking" the slide easier. The factory has a certain weight spring to have the gun function properly. Changing the recoil spring is more for those that customize their reloads (mouse fart target loads of full bore max loads) Using the correct spring prevents the slide from slamming or having the gun fail to operate,

But yes, some guns are easier than other,

The spring weights I cited are factory standard weight; I'm definitely not encouraging the use of reduced power springs.
