Linda has gotten in the habit of buying me shotguns for Christmas. Uh... Darn? This year we found a 12 guage JC Higgins Model 20 in excellent condition... for $100. We bought it as my Christmas present, with the intent of shortening it into a slug/self-defense shotgun.
It is so nice that I was reluctant to mess with it, but it's not like I don't have enough full-length shotguns, so off I went. After shortening the barrel to 18-1/2 inches, squaring and recrowning it I fabricated a front sight out of 1/2" mild steel.
I used a powerful magnet to hold the sight in place while soldering it to the barrel-
Cleaned it up and blued it- here's the result below. Next is the rear sight...
