Under a rock somewhere
It actually is starting to ashame me that these people get elected to represent me.

Bill 6525
http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A06525&sh=t

General view of it, the way I read it is put all liability and responsibility on the people selling the guns, make a new mandatory insurance policy that every gun dealer will need to have. It will also impose criminal penalties and legal liability on dealers for any criminal activity that occurs after they have sold the firearm to a qualified buyer. Generally, it looks like they can't stop guns so make it too expensive for those who sell them.

Bill 829
http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A00829&sh=t

Here's a new definition I'd never heard a "Child Operated Firearm"

to mean a pistol or revolver manufactured 1 year after the effective date of these provisions which does not contain a childproofing device or mechanism incorporated into the design of such pistol or revolver to effectively preclude an average 5 year old from firing same; makes violations a class A misdemeanor.

Bill 2772
http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A02772&sh=t

If you have a .50 it's illegal and the police will reimburse you when you turn it in. Wonder how that's going to hit the .50 blackpowder crowd?

Bill 3447
http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A03447&sh=t

The wording on this one means the new leverlution, incendiary, and many other types of surplus will be illegal, also if you own or use frangible ammo in home defense you will be guilty of Criminal Possession in the 3rd Degree.

Bill 7331
http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A07331&sh=t

No opinion on this one, I'll just post the summary because it makes me sick to read

Amends the definition of assault weapon to include additional weapons; defines the terms "detachable magazine", "muzzle break" and "muzzle compensator"; authorizes the division of state police to promulgate rules and regulations for the addition of information identifying assault weapons lawfully possessed prior to January 1, 2008 to the pistol and revolver ballistic identification databank.

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would replace the definition of an "assault weapon" with a
new definition that relies on the characteristics of the weapon and
includes definitions of assault weapon devices that are designed to
enhance the lethality of these weapons. In addition, the bill would
exempt persons in lawful possession, control or use of an assault
weapon from misdemeanor violations if they: render the weapon
permanently inoperable, surrender the weapon or register the weapon
with the ballistic databank, defined in section 396-ff of the general
business law.

It's honestly starting to make me sick to live in this state

I'm sure you would have moved if you could. I presume that with the current state legislature and governor this stuff will likely pass. I have no good advise to offer, but if I was in your shoes I'd start considering other options.

I would move, I am not just saying that I did from Calif. 25 years ago. I have not made near as much money as I was making there, or would have if I had stayed there, but my quality of life is so much better heck with the money I am not going hungry.
We all everywhere have laws, rules and regulations we live under but I feel so much freer. I don't lock my house often, Forget the keys in the car overnight sometimes, I could go on and on but why?
The largest bonus of all is my grandkids will grow up here as my kid did.

I cringe whenever I hear anybody refer to "assault weapons." :fire:
Am I correct in thinking that there was no such category as "assault weapon" until the antis invented it? My interpretation is "anything scary enough to justify banning." There doesn't seem to be any other requirement. :barf:

From the Violence Policy Center (http://www.vpc.org/studies/awaconc.htm):
Assault weapons—just like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearms—are a new topic. The weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.
So basically they admitted to intentionally adopting a name known to confuse the public in their favor.

Leaving the state seems to only make things worse. Wouldn't the better option be for all gun owners to move into the state and start voting these suckers out of office?

I know it'll never happen, but letting the state go to hell in a hand-basket ultimately makes things worse for everyone. As each state gets more anti-gun it just breeds more gun-grabbers.

I say fight-em and fight-em hard.

native new yorker

I lived in westchester too.
get out while you still can, I do not miss it even a little bit.
here you can buy anything you have money for, if you have education the pay is great, if not, you'll get by.
Freedom is priceless.

I'm honestly tempted to move. I've been looking at Vermont, Florida, Nevada and Arizona. Now to just figure out how to leave and have it so the rest of my family can still afford our home lol. Not like I'm in a great career, could probably do this anywhere until I found something better wherever I was to move...

I'm just tired and dis-illusioned I guess. I e-mail my reps, I make calls, I support who I can... But when you're outnumbered it just never does anything. I've got Bloomberg down south of me, Albany up north, and everyone in between. Each time I see one of these bills and (D-NY) next to it, it just kinda hurts. I didn't elect these people, Bloomberg has the city yet passes laws for the entire state it seems... I'm just very tired of waking up and wondering if the BATF will be knocking on my door telling me my Mosin is now a terrorist rifle for being too long and having the ability to mount a bayonet

24. "50-CALIBER WEAPON" MEANS A RIFLE CAPABLE OF FIRING A CENTER-FIRE
2 CARTRIDGE IN 50-CALIBER OR LARGER, .50 BMG CALIBER OR LARGER, ANY OTHER
3 VARIANT OF 50-CALIBER OR LARGER, OR ANY OTHER METRIC EQUIVALENT OF SUCH
4 CALIBER, PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT NOTHING IN THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL BE
5 CONSTRUED TO INCLUDE ANY MUZZLE LOADING RIFLE WHICH IS DESIGNED TO USE
6 BLACK POWDER, OR A BLACK POWDER SUBSTITUTE, AND WHICH CANNOT USE FIXED
7 AMMUNITION.

Looks like muzzle loaders have no reason to worry yet.

California was officially lost back in 2000. We'll never have real ARs, AKs, etc.. We'll never have Shall Issue CCW.. and it's not necessarily because of the law-makers. People here dont want such things. This is reality.
Im suprised we're even allowed to buy guns and ammo at all in this state.

EDIT: Oops.. I thought this thread was about Cali. But yea.. NY sucks too.

+1 on that. NY has negative net migration because there are too many taxes and stupid rules and regulations. If you analyzed cost of living compared to your net income after taxes in a free part of the country you might be pleasantly surprised.

No Joke!
I took a 5K pay cut. Subtract City taxes. Subtract State taxes. I make more money than I EVER did. And loving it!

embarrassed to say I was born there(too young to have any say) but moved way south when able to choose for myself. NC + n.FL(s.FL is much like NY) my southern buddies tease me about my birthplace but say my heart is southern. I think they're trying to compliment me?

So barrel shrouds , pistol grips , bipods, etc would be ok? I mean , none of them enhance lethality soooo.......:D

unfortunately under our current NYS AWB barrel shrouds and pistol grips are already no-nos. These are being ADDED to the list of no-nos.
I'm printing up copies of these bills and bringing them down to the range w/ me and let some of the folks know about this. I suggest other NY highroaders do the same.

Even the Captain of the greatest warship has a plan in place when all is lost. Tennessee or Georgia would welcome you with open arms and open gunshops!!!

i saw the thread title and i thought it was a another sad story about New Jersey...

Jay, i'm trying to move as well, from the people's republic...i'm heading to PA hopefully this year...
they have their own battles going on in Harrisburg right now, but it ain't NJ...

California was officially lost back in 2000. We'll never have real ARs, AKs, etc.. We'll never have Shall Issue CCW

There are a few counties that are de-facto shall issue. Kern, as well as Inyo county I think? (Yeah I know, both are low population esp Inyo) And a couple up north I believe...I was turned down for CCW in Placer county which surprised me (fairly conservative), but my ex-girlfriend was approved in neighboring El Dorado county..go figure.

I have lived in CA my whole life- I am very much wanting to leave for various reasons. The industry I am in constrains me to really three other viable cities. NYC, Austin, and Seattle. Austin is most appealing to me- NYC is a no way Jose.

No, I'm young and haven't been watching politics as closely as I have been as of late. I used to avoid the news with the exception of the weather, never even read it on the net... But then I started following things more closely, that worried me, so I watched it closer... and closer... :(
