Revised NYS Assault Weapons Ban Passed To Senate

A revision to the NYS assault weapons ban has passed the assembly and is currently in the senate. This bill has made it this far in the past and has died. Hopefully it dies again this time.

Significant changes to the law include:

Redefines assault weapons as a semi-automatic rille that accepts a detachable magazine having one or more of the following; a pistol grip, a second hand grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand, a folding, telescoping or thumb-hole stock, a barrel shroud or a muzzle brake or compensator.

Adds any semi-automatic pistol that can accept a detachable magazine and had a compensator to the list of banned weapons.

It's not fair, and the anti crowd pushing this legislation
does not understand that.
I would assume that an average anti would like to make
their mark, like as if they had tried to save the world...

Who the HELL did they survey? Somebody in NY write and ask. I don't know ANY gun owners that want these things restricted. In fact, I challenge them, find 100 gun owners in NYS who support this measure.

Most citizens think "assault weapons" are full auto and are only used for "spraying lead." It's very hard to convince them otherwise. That's where the hysteria begins. I don't know of any gun owners who don't understand the difference between full auto and semi-auto. Most of the ones I know aren't squeamish about full auto anyway.

I know one gun owner who says he hates black rifles and he doesn't see why people want/need them. Does he want them to be banned? "No way," he says, on principle.

You would be well advised not to take information like this lightly.

Remember the published comments of Jim Zumbo about them? There are plenty of traditional hunters out there that feel the same way.

I've met similar people.

When I was having my GF shotgun stock being shortend for her (She's 5', good things come in small packages ) the gentleman who worked on the stock ran the stock working as a part time business to help fund his Trap/Skeet shooting habit.
Impressed by his work, I inquired about him shortening a rifle stock for a 8 year old nephew's .22 rifle.
The gentleman who was woriking on the stock asked me what type of rifle it was and informed me that he would not work on any "battle rifles". When I asked him what was a "battle rifle" he explaind that that was any non .22 semiauto or "sniper" rifles.
He then went on to expalin why .50 BMGs should banned and then started in on how only the police and military should be allowed handguns because without LE or military training no one would be able to hit anything

Basicly this man wanted everyting but shotguns and muzzleloaders banned.:banghead:

These AWBs are emotional not logical and the anti's seem to be getting smarter in writing them (practice makes perfect I guess )

Uhmm... I believe from their point of view they have done their homework. They have learned how badly (from their point of view) they wrote the AWB 1.0 and are now on AWB 2.0 .

We stopped a AWB in ILL several years ago because the anti's also went after .50s. In the bill they banned any gun that had a muzzle diameter of .50 inches or greater. The downstate legislators were upset when it was pointed out to them that this would bann all 12gauge shotguns

Unfortunetly the anti's seem to be learning a little, if they learned a lot they would not be antis. I am not saying they are stupid. I am saying they are naive.uneducated and/or ignorant.
