I've Bought a Taurus: What Was I Thinking??

Picked up my PT-945 last week and got to the range today to give it a shake down. Pretty impressive gun. It's not a compact, but a short barrel full size gun, which I'm good with.

Fed my 200 gn LSWC handloads w/o a hitch; pretty accurate at 25 yards. Managed some 2.5-3.0" groups from a rest with a not so great trigger. It's really well made and the three position safety is a great feature, more guns should have this.

May be a keeper.

I've been lucky so far.

Both of my Taurus fire flawlessly.

My beloved .357 snubby I call "morocha" due it's shiny blueing and dark grips.

My Milennium Pro .45 has 300 rounds fired through it and never failed to eject or feed or go BANG! for all that matters. I call her "gordinha".

On the other hand, my other weapons have no name.

Used to be a Taurus was always a great gun. They still can be but also can be pretty awful. And their warranty service is maddeningly slow.

Reassuring post that their smiths do a good job of cobbling pieces back together. As for selling the gun, kinda makes a man nervous about buying something used at auction.

But you may have gotten a piece that will give you thousands of rounds of happiness.

Best of luck to the OP. I got a Taurus 24/7 Pro C a couple of years ago, and it's been flawless. It's got a comfy grip, shoots well, and hasn't skipped a beat (except when I tried to fire it right out of the box with a ton of lubri-gunk on it--the slide wouldn't fully cycle until I cleaned it). Generally, they're pretty good guns.

I've got a Taurus M85 Titanium 38 Special and a PT145 Mill Pro. I love them both. Always reliable and feel very well built. Would definitely buy another Taurus product with no hesitations.

I treat my M85 Ultra Lite like a rented mule, and it never acts up. A friend has the 7-shot Tracker in 357, and it runs like a top. Never shot a Taurus semi-auto, but based on what I've seen, I would.

I've had some major crap Taurus handguns. However one of my bedside guns and one of my hunting guns are Taurus, go figure.

I just sent back mt PT38s for repair to Taurus today. Had to pay $60 shipping :( Hoepfully it doesn't take a year to get back and problem not fixed. Gun is accurate and relaible but has issues with locking slide back on empty magazine.

I've always sort of wanted a PT945 as well, if one comes by at a bargain price I'd maybe snatch it up but my Ruger P90 and P97 fulfills my inexpensive DA .45acp needs.

I have a pt145 mil-pro 45acp an it makes for a great lil compact pocket pistol/iwb carry ...... has been fed everything from talon an corbon too wolf steel cases an has been near perfect ....as far as a cqd gun its great .... only thing is the trigger group could be better but its ok !

I have owned 3 Taurus pistols, 2 revolvers in .38 and a PT140 in .40. No problems from any of those guns.

Just think you could have really screwed up and bought a Glock.

i have a pt92 and a 1911, both work great.:D

exactly why i only buy new, all the if pos just trade / sell it comments.

i am suuuuure all you THR fellas say---- well it dosent work worth s--t so what will you give me for it? right?:scrutiny:

they didnt manifacture and ship a defective gun on purpose and their willing to fix it if it is. thats pretty high road to me.

dosent work right and just sell it to sombody else is rather low road imo.:banghead:

yes - i bought a pos from someone (once). no - he didnt tell me, yes - i sent it in, yes - they fixed it, yes - it is a good gun now, no - it was'nt a taurus.

ok rant over, just saying

I had a 945 once upon a time. Be advised that he safety spring has a tendency to poke out from under the grip, and can fly off if you're not careful.

Mine was "accuracy incidental"--yes, about 4" at 15 yards, but I was new to handguns at the time too. Probably played a bigger role in that than the gun did. It did get me qualled to carry, so no real complaints.

I did like the size of it.

I've Bought a Taurus: What Was I Thinking??

with todays recession i had to look at the cheaper route...

i just got my first taurus last weekend and i've been very happy with it. looks and feels great!!! and it's surprisingly very nice to shoot:D After 320 rounds of torture test, (not a single hiccup! by the way) it is ready to be my long time companion. thanks taurus!

Well......

If your Taurus runs as well as my PT1911 does then you have probably just become a member of the Taurus fan club. My Taurus PT1911 not only runs flawlessly, 2000 plus rounds without a hitch, but it outshoots my Kimber.:what: Don't let the Taurus haters get you down. Owning a Taurus and loving it kind of reminds me of the old joke about fat chicks and mopeds. You can have fun with either of them(modified) but you don't want friends to find out.

sold my S&W 340 PD. and got 2 for the price of one.
they are sooooo happy together! love this as an alternative to my SLIM pistol. Lightweight, concealable, 5-shot revolver. what a great pair.

A great gun. Not just for the price. Not as spiffy or as smooth as, say, a Kimber, but it goes bang just as often and just as accurately. For maybe half the price.

are you kidding me? for HALF the price?

I was interested in buying one till i saw the prices of the pt1911's... 650+ for a taurus? LOL... Id buy a springfield Loaded first. and yeah, lots of doo-dad's and features but if it was in the $500 range I would pick one up.
